Yesterday was very windy up here on the Plateau. We had been warned that an approaching front would bring wind and (hopefully) some rain. We could definitely use the rain.
The wind arrived in the early morning, as you can tell from the photo above. We could hear the wind chimes clanging and every once in a while there was a ‘thump’ as something hit the house. But we were taking everything is stride until suddenly the power went out.
Fortunately it was light enough in the living room for us to do our daily devotions without any electricity. Surely the power would be back on by the time we finished. We finished our devotions, but the power was still off. I don’t think we realize how much we depend on electricity until we lose it. Fortunately I love to read and that doesn’t require electricity as long as it’s light enough.
After about an hour the power came back on, so we powered up the computers and printers and reset all the digital clocks, the coffee maker, microwave, etc. Things went well for about 20 minutes when the power went out again!
This time it was off for only about a minute — just long enough for us to have to power up the computers and printers and reset all the digital clocks, the coffee maker, microwave, etc. Soon we were back in business — and after about five minutes the power went out for a third time! Fortunately the power remained on for the rest of the day and the wind has now died down. Now if we would only get some of that rain!

Glad your power finally came on for good! About 4 years ago we had a “brown out” in half our county and the power was down for 2 1/2 days – that was a little rough!

It was windy here yesterday also and rained all day. It was raining when I left to do volunteer work at 7:00 AM and it was still raining when I went to bed about 10. Most of the time it was just a gentle rain so that was good. You’re 100% correct in that we take things for granted until we don’t have them. Americans, for the most part, are spoiled and really never take time to appreciate what they have and whine about everything. Okay… off of my soap box. 🙂

I enjoyed walking in the woods yesterday. Love the sound of the wind in the trees! And later we DID get rain. Lots and lots of much needed rain. After I went to bed, I heard the rain and the thunder boomers for much of the night. Loved it!
And it looked like my electricity was only out for a short time yesterday and that happened when I was out. And I only had one bedroom clock to reset, since in an effort to save some pennies on my electric bill, I keep most things unplugged when I’m not using them. Not my computer, of course, I leave it on sleep…but it was okay.

Shelly — 2 1/2 days! I don’t envy you that one. When I lived in South Carolina we had to go without power for about 30 hours because of a hurricane. That was bad enough.

It has been windy here and now we are getting some much needed rain. When we built our house, we had a large propane generator installed outside. We heard horror stories about the prolonged outages several years before. With two Golden Retrievers, we can’t just pick up and go to a hotel. Glad your outage wasn’t too lengthy.

We had wind too and rain, though not a good soaking rain. Just misty and dreary.
My parents live in PA and their power is always going off. They finally got a generator and now that just kicks in when their power goes off.

Happyone — sorry you didn’t get a good rain, but I saw on your blog that you put the dreary day to good use. Thankfully we don’t lose power very often; if we did I would certainly consider a generator.
