I was going through some old pictures when I found the picture above. It was taken on our Caribbean cruise back in 2001.
We flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where we boarded the ship. The ship left San Juan on a Sunday night and we slept fairly late on Monday. But we got up early enough every other morning to see the sunrise. Of course, we usually went back to bed after the sun was up, but after all it was a vacation!
This particular picture was taken on Wednesday morning as we approached Antigua. I like it because the light reflected on the sea seems to be beckoning us to follow it into the sun. Unfortunately the ship was headed in a slightly different direction.

Beautiful sunrise.
I lived in Puerto Rico for 3 years in the late 70’s!

Happyone, I wish we had had the time to explore Puerto Rico — it looks like a fascinating place.
Grammy, thanks for the kind comment.

That’s a fantastic photo… how perfect…
I have never been on a cruise before and I’m not too sure if I would want to be… long periods of time on a ship.. well lets just say, I would be looking mighty “green”…. =D

That’s so beautiful. There’s nothing quite like the sunrise and/or sunset from the deck of a ship with nothing around to even distract from it.

Michele, most cruise ships today are so large you often don’t know you’re moving.
2sweetnsaaxy, all the sunrises and sunsets on board the ship were magnificant. They’re definitely hard to beat.
Ruth, thanks. We do have many great memories from that cruise.

Simply beautiful photo! I shared some of my Caribbean Cruise a while back at Sacred Ruminations for Sky Watch and have a collage of local sunset photos from a few days ago at Small Reflections this morning along with my Camera Critters Seagull shots. If I could figure out how to get your blog to recognize me as ‘storyteller’ from Small Reflections … I’d enter that link instead of this WordPress one.

That’s a beautiful picture George! My hubbie and I enjoy cruising too. We have not ever been to Antigua tho.
I love getting up early and seeing the sun rise and getting some exercise in before the day begins. Nothing like it!

Susie, if you get the opportunity, go to Antigua — I think it was our favorite island. The coast is absolutely magnificent.
