When we visited our friends Judy and Charlie at their cabin in the western North Carolina mountains, we were treated to a magnificent display of mountain laurel in bloom. One afternoon we walked up the road past their cabin and were treated to the view you see in the picture above. The blossoms were mostly white and pink, but there were subtle differences between the different flowers.
Unfortunately no picture can do justice to such a marvelous scene. But in spite of this I still can’t resist the temptation to post a close up of these beautiful blossoms.

I love mountain laurel. When I grew up in TN there were a lot of them around there and I always enjoyed going in the woods to see them.

How beautiful! Certain things about living “up north” and the northern spring flowers is one of them.

I just love Kalmia and wish it grew better here. Maybe it does and I just haven’t seen any. Mine is ready to bloom. Maybe if I took it out of a container and put it in the ground it’s roots could spread out and it would grow better. Pretty anyway. MB

This has definitely been a banner year for the laurel. It’s still blooming in profusion here.
