I consider the photo above to be both scenic and appropriate for today. That is the flag that flies from our flagpole here in the Glade. The picture above was taken last January as you can tell from the trees. I didn’t get a picture yesterday to use with this post.
One of the first things Dad did after he got us moved into the house he was building was put up a flagpole in the front yard. My younger brother, Ken, and I had the job of putting up the flag each morning when the weather was good and taking it down and folding it in the evening.
Mom and Dad continued to fly their flag daily until they both lost their sight. Ken still flies a flag at his house as do Betsy and I. Our flag gets weathered over the year and so we have the tradition of flying a new flag each Flag Day. There are now leaves on the trees around our house and the sky is not quite as blue as it is in this picture, but that new ‘Old Glory’ still looks pretty against the sky.
I know it’s old-fashioned, but I still thrill to see that flag unfurling in the breeze.

Any picture with Ol’ Glory flying is a good picture. It’s funny how you mentioned that it’s old-fashioned and how a lot of people interpret that as bad. When I hear the term old-fashioned I interpret it as good.

When we lived in KY for hubby’s sabbatical year our two girls went to school there. Our oldest came home from school and asked what she should do when everyone was saying the pledge of allegiance with their hand over their heart. After all, she said, that she was Canadian (albeit of German Heritage.) I felt that I was inspired to give her a wonderful solution. I told her to put her hand over her heart and pledge her ‘friendship’ to the United States of America!! I love to see how patriotic our friends to the south are and I rejoice with you when I see the flag fly! We here up north are not nearly as outwardly patriotic as the folks in the USA. I, too, pledge my friendship!! God bless America!

I don’t think it’s old fashioned at all to fly The Flag.
It’s beautiful to see the flag flying against the blue sky!!

Great picture and post George. I love that you and your brother put it out and took it down each day…you are true Americans! Kuddos to your dad for teaching you these wonderful values.
I keep an American flag flying 24/7; 365 days. If it had to come down each day…it would not get put back up. 🙂

Lovely picture of Old Glory george !
We fly the flag outside out home also, and The First Sergeant erected a new flagpole in front of his workshop down in the woods just recently.
Yesterday I bought a new “old” Betsy Ross thirteen star flag, it made my heart skip a beat, when I watched it flying in the breeze.

I forgot that yesterday was Flag Day. Proably wouldn’t have put it out since we had storms roll through. We need to get us a new one to put up.
