A Hot Day on the Plateau

LilyCollage

It was almost unbearably hot here on the Plateau yesterday.  It got so bad that the Weather Service issued a special alert about the heat.  They warned of a heat index between 100 and 105.  I’m not sure it got quite that high at the house, but it was definitely warm.  We even turned on the air conditioning for the first time this season.  We have great cross-ventilation in our house and rarely use the ac.  I just hope yesterday wasn’t a harbinger of things to come.

I got the front yard mowed and the roses watered, but that was about the extent of my outside work.  We have many weeds that need attention, but they will just have to wait.

But all is not lost in the garden.  The lilies are doing well, and since I had time to work inside I made the collage above to share with all of you.  The collage can be enlarged by clicking on it.

41˚C? Oh wow, we’re almost at the equator but it rarely reaches that high here. And I hear that it can get really bad up there because it’s dry heat, not humid like here, so you get more cases of heatstroke. Is that true? Be safe and keep cool.

And those brightly-colored lilies are hot too! Love ’em!

George: I hate those super hot days. Your lilies are lovely.

  3. Carla Says:

It WAS really hot yesterday! Usually the summers here aren’t that bad. Well, not bad compared to many other places in the South.

I love your collage. Your lilies are gorgeous!

Wow! That’s hot! I can handle the cold much better. Keep cool and well hydrated – but I’m sure you know that. Your lilies are exquisite! Hope they are holding up under the heat.

Great collection there George, maybe today is a little cooler for you?.

  6. Rose Says:

I am not sure what our temperature actually got up to yesterday, but it was in the 90’s and so hot and humid it was miserable to be out in it.

  7. Ruth Hiebert Says:

    OH, the color!

Beautiful lilies! We must be having the same weather. We went to check on the eagle yesterday and I had so much trouble breathing, I had to tell Mike to take me back home. I go out and it is like someone throws a blanket over my head. I hate that! I guess it is living in the Ohio River valley.

Hot weather here as well. When it’s 90 and no breeze in the mountains, it’s hot!

It is hot here too. I looked at the beatle bugs in my yard. They are the same as what you took a picture of. They like to eat my red tip bushes and my green bean leaves. I don’t like them.

I love the collage George, and all of your beautiful flowers. 🙂

I don’t envy you such heat. One of the benefits of living so close to the ocean is the temperatures remain a bit cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. BEAUTIFUL Day Lilies for sure!
    Hugs ande blessings,
