My World: We Can Still Smell the Roses

Sonia Rose, Fairfield Glade. November 16, 2009.

This is my post for the My World meme.  It is hosted by Klaus, Ivar, Sandy, Wren, Louise and Fishing Guy.  To learn more about our world or to join and share your part of the world, click HERE.

The rose above isn’t much to look at, but it is a rose, it is fragrant and the picture was taken Monday afternoon.  I’m not sure, but I think this is the latest in the year that we’ve had roses in bloom.

We obviously haven’t had a killing frost this autumn.  Yesterday we had to go to Knoxville fairly early in the morning.  The temperature when we left the house was 39° here at the house, but dropped to 32° before we got off the Plateau.

I’m not sure how much longer this weather will last, but I checked yesterday afternoon and we have three more reblooming iris and 19 rose buds ready to open.  I wonder how much longer we’ll be able to smell the roses?

Wow 19 buds??? I hope they make it out before it gets too cold. So, are all the leaves down yet???

  2. Susie Says:

Whether the roses bloom or not George I think you and Betsy live the kind of life where you will “always smell the roses”. (hope that makes sense).

  3. Fishing Guy Says:

George: The weather is changing but you still have some great flowers.

  4. Pam Says:

Hopefully until they all bloom, George. You do an amazing job with your yard and flowers, thank for the beauty you bring into our world.

Can smell the rose from here George.

Flowers are funny. Sometimes they are in their own little micro-climate. We have some blooming well into the winter and if they are in a secluded area they may never stop. Only they look a little bedraggled. MB

  9. Snap Says:

    George,
Your flowers are so beautiful. You take such good care of them. I bet you and Betsy talk to them, too!

  10. Karen Says:

    Enjoy them while you can.
Do you ever dry any of your flowers?

  11. Stephany Says:

Such a pretty pink! My rose and the iris were very late to bloom this year but I’ve had re-blooms of my other flowers as well. The dahlias and zinnias bloomed twice.

  12. Cheryl Says:

How wonderful that you still can enjoy roses and irises. The rose is a very pretty color.

  13. Mary Says:

Wonderful to have roses and iris so late! It hasn’t gotten cold here yet, either. I’m willing to wait another month at least 🙂

  14. Arija Says:

Whether they are there or not, we can always smell the roses.

  15. Happily Retired Gal Says:

    How lovely 😉
    My roses are blooming too!
    Hugs and blessings,
