Last Friday I decided that Betsy needed to get out of the house for a while, so we took a drive to the Tellico River, another of our favorite spots here in Tennessee. There are some waterfalls that can be seen from the road, so I felt Betsy would not have to do much walking.
One of those roadside waterfalls is Baby Falls, a pretty little 15-foot drop in the Tellico River. There were swimmers enjoying the plunge pool, but what caught our attention was a group of kayakers shooting the falls.
By the time I got into position to take pictures there was only one person left to shoot the falls. I got this series of shots as he went over the brink.
I didn’t have time to change the settings on my camera so I didn’t get a shot of the kayak at the base of the falls, but the kayaker was successful in shooting the falls, he landed upright and paddled across the plunge pool before continuing downstream.
I must admit that it looked very exciting, but I think I’ll continue to enjoy waterfalls while standing on solid ground!

Very exciting situation and bold kayakers!

Even though for the kayaker this probably not a huge jump, I get jelly-legs just watching! Great shots George! And a HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you both! Enjoy!

That would scare me to death. Happy Anniversary George!

I’m with you.
Fantastic series of photos! You really caught the action. And my stomach dropped with the kayaker.
My post today is especially for you, George. 🙂

I’d stick with photography too.
How nice of you to get Betsy out for awhile;
being home bound can get old after awhile.

The falls is lovely, but I do think the safer way to enjoy them is from the shore.

He makes it look so easy! But I’m with you…I’d rather watch from the sidelines!

I’m with you, standing there watching is what I’d be doing. That looks a bit precarious to me. Gorgeous waterfall shot though

I agree with you George! Though the Kayaker looks amazing, I would prefer to enjoy the falls on Solid Ground and enjoy the Kayak on Straight rivers! Too afraid to be drowned ha-ha-ha!
Glad you take Betsy out and Happy Anniversary again!

Boy did you happen to be at the right place at the right time!! This is a great series of pictures, everyone needs to click on them! I don’t see how he managed to land upright, as it looks like a steep incline.

We love to kayak but not shoot over the falls! I liked the shots you got, I will stand on dry ground and watch.

Amazing!!! Can’t believe you actually got the shot of his going over!

George: That doesn’t look like something I would want to try.

Exciting is not the word I would use to describe going over a waterfall in a kayak but I’ll just keep my description to myself. 🙂

I’m with Neal!
I live in one of the most talked about water rafting states in the country and I’ve never been in my life probably for the reason Neal is thinking. 🙂
Great shots George!
