Watery Wednesday #103: Foster Falls

Foster Falls, South Cumberland State Recreation Area, Tennessee. August 5, 2006.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

We’ve had a very hot and dry summer here on the Cumberland Plateau of Tennessee.  This has brought back memories of the severe drought we had in this are in 2006 – 2007.

The picture above was taken in August, 2006, and is of Foster Falls.  Foster Falls is one of the largest waterfalls (in terms of volume of water) in the state, but on this visit there was barely a trickle of water.

The pool did capture a nice reflection, however.

Yes, the reflection is so pretty. I remember how tough the watering restrictions were during those summers.

We are having just the opposite weather but at least everything is green and growing faster than ever. Last year at this time it was to dry and brown.. I’m never satisfied!
Love the waterfall, George.. have a wonderful day 😉

  3. Darla Says:

    A nice reflection indeed!

  4. Neal Says:

Looks like our area now. We haven’t had rain for a month. The reflection is pretty even if there’s not much water falling.

  5. Sandra Says:

the nasty old drought has done a lot of damage, this rock reflection is very pleasing to the eye, even without the water falling.

  6. Ruth Hiebrt Says:

    The reflection is beautiful.

  7. Mary Says:

I bet there are a lot of “dry” waterfalls right now. We sure need some reall rain around here. Our water tastes real “funky” right now because of the low river levels. It isn’t anything bad, but sure tastes nasty. I can’t wait for some rain!

  8. Tracy Says:

The reflection is gorgeous! It seems like everyone has had a “bad” summer this year.

  9. Tricia Says:

That’s how it’s been here this summer – very dry! We probably won’t have a spectacularly colored Autumn because of it! =(

  10. Ginny Hartzler Says:

The reflection is beautiful! But I’m glad you mentioned that there was no water, because I thought there was something seriously wrong with me!! I even clicked on it to try and find the water!

Hot here this afternoon. I dip in the water would be welcome.

Sometimes it is hard to remember what went on just last year–weather-wise that is.
Our pond was getting very lowe and still is the waterfall is dry as a bone. We had rain in big buckets all day yesterday but not really enough to make a difference.
    Dry falls. LOL

I agree about the great reflection. If the falls were tumbling that reflection either wouldn’t be or would be very very fragmented. 🙂

  14. Rose Says:

This is a beautiful photograph…it makes me want to see more of the surrounding area.

  15. ann chin Says:

beautiful reflection, and no body there to ruin the scenery.
