In May of last year our friends Judy and Charlie invited us to spend a couple of days with them at their cabin near Otto, North Carolina. We’ve known Judy and Charlie for several years and enjoy their company.
Their cabin is a vacation hideaway in the mountains of western North Carolina. The deck of the cabin is a perfect place for sitting and talking or just sitting and enjoying the mountain views.
One advantage of a May visit was that the mountain laurel was in bloom. The cabin is one of only a few on the side of the mountain, so there are many mountain laurels along the road. Walking along the road was a visual delight for more than the mountain views.

Love those laurels! The mountains are truly beautiful – as are the two ladies enjoying sitting on the deck! Good times with friends – can’t beat it!

Had to clock on this one, George! The mountain laurel matches that beautiful pink sunset! Seen a mountain sunset, but never the mountain laurel! You’re posting very early today!

Delightful photos George. Mountain laurel blooms remind me of old-fashioned hoop skirts! What a magical spot for a cabin and the fluffy clouds of pink blooms just enhance the mountain views.

Lovely photographs, George. It is interesting that you should mention mountain laurel. Bob and I went for a drive yesterday. On our way home we drove along a road that we had never been on. We passed by lots and lots of mountain laurel. Bob has taken “mountain laurel motorcycle rides” in the past. He said he would like to make one next year, along the road that we traveled yesterday. The perimeters of the road contained more mountain laurel than we have ever seen!

What wonderful photos! I LOVE being in the mountains and curling up with a blanket and friends or family! It is just one of my most FAVORITE times EVER!!
Everything is far more beautiful, so precious and full of wonder in the mountains…Truly just Divine to me! By the looks on their faces I think they just might agree 😉
Have a blessed week!
