Last weekend we had near-record high temperatures. The temperature Friday was over 80°, which is more like the highs in July rather than April. Monday and Tuesday we had the heat on and a fire in the fireplace.
Such is Dogwood Winter. Dogwood Winter is a cold spell following warm weather that occurs as the dogwood trees are blooming. Our dogwood tree is in fact blooming as you can see from the photo above. We can only hope that Dogwood Winter is nice and short.
The blossoms of the dogwood tree are in fact very beautiful. It’s a shame that the name of this pretty tree got associated with a stretch of cold weather.

It certainly is a beautiful tree. Interesting info about Dogwood winter. I guess that is not good for one’s health. We are supposed to be in Autumn but we still have summer temperatures although the mornings are cooler.

The dogwood trees/blooms are the most beautiful! I wish we had them in south Florida.

I do like a Pink Dogwood—also the white one. I never heard of Dogwood winter but then again there are probably lots of things I have never heard of. Nice shots. MB

The dogwoods bloom in May here. They’re my association with leafing trees and the wonderful fragrance of honeysuckle. Soon….

Oh, what beautiful flowers! Learned something new – had never heard of dogwood winter before! We haven’t really had spring yet, and are looking at a snow storm today! Boy, it’s coming down fierce!

This is beautiful. I’ve never seen such deep intense color on a dogwood tree, usually they are very pale. And I didn’t know about the weather term either! None of our dogwoods have started yet! We are still lingering with the forsythia and cherry trees.

Dogwood blossoms are one of the most beautiful flowers on the face of the earth…in my opinion. I don’t know why they appeal to me so much but they do. Love the color of these.

I never heard of a dogwood winter but I do know my dogwoods are late in blooming this year. The next couple of days we are supposed to get that 80 degree weather so I hope I’ll have blooms by the end of the week.

George, I love the light in that photo of the single blossom! I have never heard of dogwood winter, but then, I think we are too far north for dogwoods…
