This is my post for the Our World meme. This meme is a second generation of My World Tuesday created by Klaus Peter and is hosted by five wonderful ladies. To learn more about our world or to join and share your part of the world, click HERE.
When Betsy and I got to the New River at the bottom of the gorge (click here to read about our trip down), we parked the car to walk over the bridge. We wanted to get some pictures of the beautiful gorge, but when we got onto the bride Betsy noticed two kayakers, as seen in the picture above, getting ready to shoot the Fayette Station Rapids.
The rapids were some distance downstream from the bridge, and the kayakers were moving too quickly for me to get back to the car to retrieve my telephoto lens. So I did the best I could with my standard lens. The kayakers are approaching the rapids in the picture above.
If you look carefully in the middle of this picture you can see two helmets and two paddles as the kayakers shoot the rapids.
I cropped and enlarged the previous picture to give a slightly better picture of the kayakers in the rapids. It’s a good thing it was a warm day.

If West Virginia water is as cold as North Carolina water, it wouldn’t have been nearly warm enough for me.

That does NOT look like fun to me. Of course I am not a water person as far as swimming, etc.

George
Are you trying to bring back vivid scenes to me of my “great” effort in the 1980’s on that river near Atlanta?
Remember I was not the “flavour” of the day!!! ha ha.

I love a gentle canoe ride down the wide French Broad. A kayak down fast-moving rivers and rapids? I would not do that on a D-Double-Dare!

looks fun but i’d probably capsize on those rapids!

I love the water and I would love to be able to kayak, but I’m too big of a chicken to even try!, My youngest son kayaks, but I don’t think he’s done anything like this — of course, if he has, he probably wouldn’t have told me anyway!! Old chicken Mom!! Your captures are wonderful George!! Thanks for sharing the beauty!

You’d think a girl born and raised in West Virginia would have rode the rapids someplace at least once – NOT!
I do envy these folks on their adventures but I’m a scaridy cat! 🙂

My word! But they do make for a colorful picture! Our seniors group at church go kayaking frequently. You would think they were high school seniors, not REAL seniors. I say, call me when you get the comfy chairs and hot chocolate!

I have done some white water rafting – not the BIG rapids – but have only been in a kayak one time while on a cruise in the Bahamas. I did see the two guys and the helmets. Great shots. genie
