Watery Wednesday: West Prong Falls

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

2011 was a ‘wet’ year in our part of Tennessee, with an above-average rainfall.  The results of this rainfall was apparent to Betsy and me when we visited the Smokies last month.  Waterfalls in December are often reduced to a trickle, but the water-levels were up when we visited.

West Prong Falls is a pretty little waterfall on the road to Cades Cove.  I didn’t bushwhack to the base of the falls, but the light and shadows on the water when viewing the waterfall from the road were pretty.

My zoom lens let me get a closer look at a part of the falls.

2011 was far from wet here. Everything was all dried up.

Love, love, love your photographs of the falls. I’m glad you had a gush of water falling over the rocks, rather than a trickle!

Hi George, I’ve just been to Betsy’s and suddenly found your comment that made me laugh. I bet you have fairly long arms because you’re tall. Do you know that many years ago when we were also confronted by a bridge longer than this one (we were evaluating projects in far areas then), a tall guy tried to pull both railings so i can hold on to one of them. My short arms didn’t allow me to hold on both. Then i slowly walk through following him while looking directly at his nape! Looking down the water will not allow me to push through.

About your waterfalls now, they are so cute, but i love the effect of the slow shutter. I am also a fan of falls, and i think Betsy knows we chase them too here, I’ve posted the best in my blog too. You should come here to see our falls.

I watched both photos in bigger format and I love them. Well George, it rained in Finland too last summer and just then when we made our holiday beyond the Arctic Circle.

That one is very mesmerizing looking with the amount of water going over it. Beautiful!
