As you’ve probably imagined, Betsy and I were on the road over the past couple of weeks. We had a fabulous trip out west, and I want to share an overview of our 5,455 mile adventure. The image above shows our trip on Google Earth.
Our first major destination was Colorado Springs, where we visited Pikes Peak, the Garden of the Gods, and the Royal Gorge. We also met with blog friends Sally and Jim.
We then went on to the Rocky Mountain National Park, where we were able to drive the Old Fall River Road which had been closed by snow when we visited last year. We also visited areas of the park that we didn’t get to last time.
Then it was off to Yellowstone. We got to visit many sections of the park, and would be hard pressed to name a favorite area. But in spite of all that we saw, we left many things unseen so we would have a good excuse to go back. We also met blog friends Linda and Doug while at Yellowstone.
We started home by way of Rapid City, South Dakota, where we visited Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park.
It was a marvelous trip, and I’m sure I’ll have much more to share in the days ahead as I work through some of the 2,000 pictures I took!
Click HERE to check on Betsy’s summary of our trip. Her pictures are completely different.

2,000 photos!!! Wow! I’d have to have a bigger computer to hold them. AND, 5,455 miles would probably require a new butt. Mine would be permanently numb.

My hat off George. Normally when we visit by our car in Germany, we drive only from 2500km / 1553 miles to 3500km / 1406 miles and that in 10 days.
We love to stay in one place few days. From there to make short trips. Last summer when I was photographing Poor-man statues, I drove in three days 1686km / 1112 miles. Those roads which I drove were village roads and many of them sand roads.
Welcome to home and tell more about Your great car trip.

This is a good summary of your trip, George, but it’s just a teaser. We want to see more photos from each of the places you visited. It was such a pleasure for Doug and me to meet the two of you. I’m looking forward to future posts with more of the details of your western adventure.

Thanks for the map – saves me heaps of time, trying to map out the trip with my trusty US atlas – from the dates given on Betsy’s fine initial report. The photos so far shown are breath taking in beauty and detail – well done. Looks like you covered 9 states in the trip, not bad going, eh?
Have fun sorting out from the dual 5,000 odd photos taken for more reports, I am glad it is you, two, and not me – ha ha!
Cheers
Colin
PS: I will still be able to follow your blog when I am south for almost a month.
