Earlier this month Betsy and I went to Fort Payne, Alabama, to celebrate my birthday. One of the first places we visited was Little River Falls in Little River Canyon National Preserve.
Little River is unique in that it flows for almost its entire length along the top of Lookout Mountain. As such it doesn’t have much depth, but there was a good water flow when we were there in March.
We have been to Little River Falls before, but this time we found a new boardwalk and observation deck. The deck allowed us to have a wonderful view of the falls.
Little River Falls is a 45-foot waterfall that marks the beginning of Little River Canyon. The canyon is approximately eleven miles long and is up to 700 feet deep. Little River Canyon is sometimes called the “Grand Canyon of the East.”

It looks like you and Betsy don’t post the last place you visited! That falls looks little because of your location, but i love the long exposure effect, beautiful.

Beautiful. George, you did a great job with your tripod and filter. I need to get me a tripod…don’t know what I’ve never got one but I haven’t….except there is a cheap one here but it’s too hard to use.

During our recent trip to Texas Hill Country we traveled around the Perdernales River.. It wasn’t until we got home to northern Minnesota that I learned we were under 10 miles from the “Perdernales Falls.” Oh, what regrets! I love waterfalls, and those of other regions seem to have such stunning color.
We have spectacular waterfalls along the north shore of Lake Superior, but with the tannin in our lakes & rivers, they take on a root beer effect. This one that you’ve photographed is a beauty!
