I’m beginning to think that visiting the Rose Garden at Biltmore House and Gardens is dangerous to the health of our wallet. Each time Betsy and I visit the rose garden, one or both of us will find a rose that we think would look good in our yard. When we visited last year we found the Milestone rose, which we added to our garden this year.
We went back to Biltmore in early August as part of our getaway for Betsy’s birthday. And sure enough, we both found some roses that we thought it would be nice to have.
The first one we found was Francis Meilland. This is a new rose that I’ve had my eye on for several months.
Winter Sun is another new rose that both of us found to be very beautiful.
Sweet Afton was introduced in 1964. I’m not sure it is still available, but both Betsy and I liked its beautiful pastel colors.
Queen Elizabeth is an even older rose (1955), but it is still a beauty. I have seen it offered by several sources.
Do you have any suggestions for us? We’re running out of places to put roses in our yard, although I’m sure the deer would be delighted to have a few more rose bushes to munch on.

I’m not sure which would be worse, the damage by the deer, or the damage to your wallet! LOL! Since you’ve already paid for the roses before the deer get to them, you’ve got both problems to deal with!

Wonderful photos George. I admired every photo in a bigger form and my favorite is: Francis Meilland rose.

It would be a difficult to choose a favorite. We had a yellow rose at our Canton house that was a great performer. Have you ever made a list of your rose varieties by color?

sweet afton and winter rose are my two favorites.. i love yellow and the paleness of the sweet is just beautiful… soon your yard will rival Biltmore.

Roses are such beautiful flowers, I can see your fascination with them. I can’t pick a favorite from these. It’s all or nothing. 🙂
Actually, though, with your season tickets to Biltmore, you could just go visit these roses there. 🙂

I totally agree about these roses, George, you NEED them. Personally, my favorite is the Winter Sun, it has a big splash of wow factor. If you are like me, you will buy something you really want even if there is no room. I have always found a way to make room for something I really want, though it may take quite a bit of strategy. Let us KNOW if you get any, and which ones!

I think you should continue to add to your rose collection, but plant them in my yard. I have space and NO deer.
Of course, your traveling back and forth to maintain them might be costly; but that is chance I’m willing to take. 😉
LOVE the queen Elisabeth!!

Such beautiful roses. It would be hard to choose just one. I chuckled at your remark about the deer. They love our flowers and veggies too. Now we are having bears visit our apple trees. Yikes!! MB

Well, if the entire yard is roses, that leaves no grass to be mowed…

Dangerous to your wallet? Think of it as preventive medicine LOL.
