SkyWatch Friday is a meme that gives people a chance to share pictures that show the sky. There are many beautiful pictures posted from all around the world, and to see more you can click on the logo above or click on SKYWATCH.
Last Friday (December 12) a local television station said that the full moon visible that night would be the brightest in some fifteen years. I went out on the deck to see for myself, but all I could see was some brightness behind thick clouds on the horizon.
I kept checking the sky throughout the evening and the sky started to clear as the night wore on. We finally had a clear sky, but by then the moon could only be seen through the branches of trees behind the house (of course!).
I got a couple of pictures centered on the moon itself, but I found that I like this picture of the moon seen through the branches much better. So this is what I’m sharing as my watch on the sky this day.

I heard that too. I thought it was related to the winter solstice. But it may be a decadal thing too.

I like the moon picture you took. The next night of that same moon, we were driving around looking at lights and the moon was out and it was huge and yellow looking. I didn’t have my camera with me.

You got one good shot in spite of clouds and trees! I went on the same quest and got one good photo that night but got several early the next morning. I’ll be posting them for next weeks SWF unless I catch something really unusual in the sky this week.

Great moon picture. I remember that night. It was clear here in my part of Maryland and the moon early in the evening was not only the brightest one I remember seeing but also the biggest!!!

I love this photo … it seems perfect for Halloween … just a bit spooky. Try as I might, I seldom have any luck photographing the moon, but I did get some wonderful sky shots last week and shared with some haiku today.
