Betsy and I traveled to Chattanooga yesterday to spend some time with son Jeff and grandchildren Landon and Avery.
To get to Chattanooga we took the back way down off the Plateau and on the way we saw something that we haven’t seen in a couple of years — water coming down the escarpment.
We’ve been in a severe drought in this part of Tennessee for the past two years and most of the waterfalls and cascades have been dry or nearly dry. However, we’ve had quite a bit of rain over the past two weeks and our rainfall total is now close to normal for the year. Lakes and streams are higher than they’ve been for quite some time. It’s a good time for waterfall enthusiasts!
Betsy and I were so excited to see water cascading down the escarpment that we stopped on the way back home to get the picture above.

Mildred, we had a great day. If you haven’t already done so, check Betsy’s blog for more.
Michele, it was exciting to hear the water as we walked toward the cascade.

I have been thinking this is probably happening. I need to get back to Ozone and see it. When I was there it was just a trickle. And the house is closer to it than the motel Jimmy has been living in. We still aren’t in the house.

Thanks for the beautiful waterfall, it made my morning! I love them too and I’ve come to realize that I shouldn’t take them for granted.

Lovely picture George…there is nothing more pleasing to hear than a nice waterfall.
Where we are in NC the property has several creeks w/ some little waterfalls in it. The kids love to climb (and fall) all over them. Just playing and being kids.
Take care, Suz

Oh, this makes me lonesome for some walks in the woods…it has been a while since I have been out to roam around where there are places like this. Looking at this brings back a lot of memories for me.

It is so ironic that you lack water and we have flooding all over..

I have never been to Chattanooga, is it as pretty as the Gatlinburg area?

I know exactly what you are talking about. a few summers ago we hiked into a place here called bridal falls.. there were no falls.. that was really strange to see.. just a trickle of water.. so glad the drought seem so be held at bay for now.. wishing you a happy New Year.

What is it about flowing water that is so wonderful to look at and listen to? I can’t wait ’til the snow we’ve had in the mountains start melting to create that downstream flow. 🙂
