Ahhh … To Be Young Again

This is my post for Watery Wednesday, a weekly meme created and hosted by 2sweeetnsaxy of Eyes, Mind, Heart.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

When we came back from our friends’ cabin in North Carolina on Saturday, Betsy and I had our GPS bring us home by the back way.  That usually means  we will see some beautiful scenery and, with luck, will see some waterfalls.

Saturday we saw both and more.  We made a detour through the Nantahala Gorge and stopped at the Nantahala Outdoor Center near Wesser.  Our guidebook said there were some waterfalls (they are actually rapids) nearby and we did some hiking to see what we could find.  What we found were rafts and kayaks shooting the rapids at the end of their run down the Nantahala River.  It was a beautiful day and it looks as if every one is having fun.  What could be more fitting for Watery Wednesday?

Great shot! But I’m not sure I’d call that fun – looks like they’re fighting for their lives!

  2. Arija Says:

Wow, that looks like great fun! I wish I were a bit younger too to indulge in that sport.

  3. Kathy Says:

Yeap it does look like fun. I can’t swim so I dont think you would ever catch me trying to do that.

  4. Tina Says:

Wow that brings back some memories!! Those pixs show quite a ride..rafting is fun but you are right..being a ‘bit’ younger helps when you need to hold on tight and not fall out!!
Must have been quite a thrill to watch tho…
    great shots!!

  8. Rose Says:

I am with NCmountainwoman…there are a lot of things I wish I had had the opportunity to do in my youth. This is not one of them.

    FUN!

So funny, I have the exact same picture of US doing this a few years ago. It was fun and really, not as crazy as it looks. We took Coach’s parents too!!!

I posted a rafting blog this time also!! I used to do a lot of river rafting when I was younger as my ex-husband and I owned a professional raft. I fell out once in a large rapid and since then I have only enjoyed hiking along the rivers!!! Great photo! But I think I will leave rafting to the youngsters!

  12. Jen Says:

Young or not, you wouldn’t catch me out there.

  13. Valkyrien Says:

Wow – that looks like great fun…….for the people on the photo! I would never have tried it, young or not! But what a great capture you did! Full of action and a lot of water splashing around! Dangerous…….if you ask me! 😉

  14. srp Says:

I’m sorry… but I don’t think I would want that feeling of up and down and falling and turning and rocking… even if I was young. Great shots though!

Wow. That’s got to be a perfect display of “watery”. I love this shot – great action, great water movement, great color, great fun. 🙂

  16. Denise Says:

Fantastic action shot. My one side would love to ride that raft, the other would be standing on the shore looking on.

  17. Fishing Guy Says:

George: That is a fun shot and looks too fast for me.

  18. Carletta Says:

We have some wonderful white water rafting here in WV too.
