When Betsy and I visited with my son last weekend, we stayed at a condo in Mountain Air, North Carolina, owned by the parents of my son’s girlfriend. Mountain Air gets in name in part from the private air strip shown in the picture above. The air strip is on top of the mountain and runs through the golf course. Do you want to spend a weekend in the mountains? Hop on your plane and fly in. If you enlarge the picture your can see a few planes parked to the right of the runway near the ridge line.
Crossville calls itself the Golf Capital of Tennessee, and the Glade, where we live, has five golf courses. But none of our courses have holes quite as dramatic as the course at Mountain Air. Can you spot the two golfers on the tee to the left of center in this photo. That’s the runway in the lower right-hand corner.
I will admit that the architecture of the homes we saw did a marvelous job of blending with the environment. But some of the houses were huge. I think several of the houses on our street would fit inside this one house.
But Mountain Air is a beautiful part of the country, and we were very happy to be able to visit there.

The thing about having a house that size is the cleaning it would take!! By the time you finished, you would have to start all over again! I think I will keep my little house, thank you! (That is not sour grapes, is it?)

I’d think the airplanes would be a distraction to the golfers.
but they aren’t 747 coming in, so maybe it isn’t too bad. ha.

George: I wouldn’t mind playing a round at that neat course. You got a neat shot of the runway and the hole.

This post reminds me of the old show “Lifestyles of the Rick and Famous.” Wow. Fantastic place! And the house, though humongous, is very tasteful.

Gosh I think I know someone who would love to live in a place where you pulled your “real” airplane right up next to your house…lol..only a dream tho.. instead we carry his airplanes by hand into our house and put them in my dining room!! I think I like that better!! What an experience tho..for your guys to stay there..did you see any planes take off or land?

That must be a spectalcular golf course! I am used to having planes above when I am golfing – so that doesn’t scare me! Looks like a beautiful place to visit. A bit far away though….:)

Love the golf course. Looks like a good place to walk, if you stay out of the way of flying balls. I walked around a golf course once and got hit with a ball on the back of my shoulder. I had a round bruise that turned all sorts of colors!

This reminds me of a small housing division near me that has homes on each side of a runway. The houses have large hangers for their private planes. 🙂
Not sure I’d like this runway George – looks too small.
