We’ve had quite a few visitors to our feeders during this cold spell. The Pileated Woodpecker in the picture above has been to the feeder a few times. We didn’t realize just how large this type of woodpecker could be until we bought this house. Before we we moved up here full-time we had problems with woodpeckers munching on our wood siding. Fortunately we’ve gotten that problem control, so I don’t mind feeding this guy at the suet feeder.
This beautiful bluebird is looking over the feeders trying to decide which one offers the best buffet. He looks as if he’s well-prepared for the cold weather we’re ‘enjoying’.

Great shots George! Blue birds have always been a favorite of mine. I can remember, as a kid, going out a fence row (locust post) and looking in knot holes to see if I could find a blue bird’s nest. There was just about always a nest in one of the holes.

Love your photos George. How did you get the woodpeckers to stop tearing at your wood siding? We have some that are tearing up the trim around our dining room window.

George: Really neat captures at the feeders. The birds really stay around even in the cold weather.

We have woodpeckers trying to peck into our steel gutters. You can imagine the noise that makes!

Hi George,
That woodpecker sure is a big fellow! He needs a suet feeder all his own. 🙂
What a lovely little bluebird – one of my favorites.
Hope you and Betsy had a wonderful Christmas. I’m sending Happy New Year wishes to you both for a wonderful year ahead with much waterfall exploring!!

Wonderful shots. I so enjoy the two Pileateds when they visit our yard. Last January was the very first time I ever had a bluebird in my yard and we had two of them for most of February and March as well. I keep looking to see if they will honor us with another visit!

Both birds are a thrill to see.The Pileated looks a little out of place at the feeder.

I’m amazed that they will hang on the suet feeder like that! Wow! I haven’t seen one yet this winter, but hope to eventually.
