Betsy and I came back home to Monday afternoon to a very snowy world. Betsy looks very happy in the picture above, but I’m not sure if she’s happy we made it home or if she’s happy because of the snow.
We went down to Fort Payne, Alabama, for a weekend at the DeSoto Falls State Park lodge. Their weekend package included a special Valentine dinner on Sunday and breakfast Monday morning. It was a deal too good to pass up.
But, as you might suspect, the big attraction for us was the waterfalls. We’ve been to Fort Payne a couple of times before and really like the area. In addition to the park we also visited Little River Canyon, which is sometimes called the “Grand Canyon of the East”. In addition to a waterfall, the canyon also offers some spectacular views from the Canyon Rim Drive.
I had this trip planned for a several weeks, but last week they started talking about a major snowstorm over the weekend. Betsy was really torn as to whether or not we should go. She gets a little nervous about traveling in the snow, but felt that if we stayed here it wouldn’t snow and she would miss both the trip and the snow. If we went away she felt the Glade would get the kind of snow she really likes and she would miss it.
Betsy was right — we went and the Glade got the kind of snowfall she really likes. But we made it back safe and sound and the snow continued long enough after we got back that she could still enjoy it.
I’m almost afraid to ask which she liked most — the trip or the snow! What do you think?

Today I’m grateful for safe travel.

I don’t think she liked either the best; I think she liked being with you in that romantic room and having a Valentine dinner! I saw the photos on her blog and they are amazing. Especially the one where it looks like two different falls with a big sheet of water in the back. She is blessed to have a husband who would plan such a nice trip in advance. I think most just pick up a few roses or a box of candy at the very last minute!

I’ll bet it was the trip because the snow would still be at home.
Boy those waterfalls are sure spectacular. You are so nice to plan these trips and things…
Glad you are back home though. MB

You, she liked most is you because you made it possible.
Nice to know that you had a wonderful time this heart’s day weekend. Betsy looks so happy in this pix.

I just came from Betsy’s blog & she’s happy about both – I love your photo here, but I also love the photo on her page of the ‘happy couple’ in front of the fireplace! And also her 1st shot of the waterfalls, WoW! That’s gorgeous!!!

I think Betsy knows enough to appreciate a husband who takes her on lovely trips for Valentine’s Day. Snow is just “icing” on the cake 🙂

oh, George, you know her happiness lies where ever you two are together…and that is as it should be. Sounds like she got the best of both worlds.

George your comment on my blog about the way the boys dressed to go to the dance was very telling. Remember you said you Mother would never let you go with out dressing up? The boy that was Kylee’s ‘date’ came in the house all dressed up in a suit and nicely shined shoes and when he saw the other fellas he said “OH my Mother said I had to get dressed up but I see you guys didn” and off came the tie. Ha! MB

George, she loves you and wherever the two of you go or are together just delights her and brings out that amazing smile!! What a wonderful week-end! Beautiful pictures of the falls on her blog!
I’m visiting the kids in southern Alberta and the snow was melting here yesterday and today!
