Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

My Beautiful Bride was very excited when we woke up yesterday morning — there was snow on the ground and it was still snowing.

Seeing the snow on the buses just made her more excited. This was just the type of snowfall that she loves.

Betsy must have taken a couple hundred pictures during the day. Her excitement was infectious — she had me singing/humming “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” most of the day.

The snow continued all day and more and more fell on the bushes.

It continued snowing even as night fell. According to the news, we got approximately 8 inches of snow. Betsy was still ecstatic, and I still had that song running through my head!

My Beautiful Bride loves snow (me not so much!) — she can hardly wait to get outside when it’s snowing. Unfortunately we haven’t had much snow here in Fairfield Glade over the past few years. but Betsy is hoping that changes this year.

Thoughts of Spring — Memories of that white stuff

March 14, 2016

Spring is now officially less than a week away, and some of us — myself included — are thinking of green grass, fragrant flowers and warm days.  We’re glad to leave Old Man Winter behind.

Others, however, (and I’m not mentioning any names)  are less happy to leave Winter behind.  As most of you know, my Beautiful Bride loves snow.  She really likes it when she can watch it snow through the day, and when it clings to trees and bushes.

Betsy says we never get enough snow here in the Glade, and I will admit that other places around here get more than we get.  But we do get snow, even if it’s not a memorable blizzard.

I put this slideshow together to help Betsy remember the snow we got year.  The pictures were all taken around our house or on our morning walks on the golf course.  Hopefully it will help her get through the long months before Old Man Winter pays us a return visit.

Betsy Was a Happy Camper

My Beautiful Bride can be impatient at times, and she has been waiting for snow ever since Thanksgiving.  But she wasn’t waiting for just any snow — it had to be a perfect snowstorm:  The snowflakes had to be big and fluffy, they had to fall during daylight, and the snow had to cling to trees and branches.

I’m happy to say that Betsy was a happy camper on Tuesday.  It started  snowing in the morning and snowed off and on during most of the day.  It didn’t take long for the deck and the golf course to have a cover of white.

The flag in front of the house provided a little color on what was a fairly gray day.  The wind came  up and caused the flag to stand out from the pole.

But the best part was that the trees and bushes all wore a coat of white.

As most of you know, Betsy loves snow and never gets enough of it.  (She obviously never had to trudge through a foot of the stuff in early morning darkness to milk the cows!).  Well, she finally got some snow last week.

We didn’t get a lot of snow — maybe a couple of inches — but it did look pretty on the fairway behind our house.

Since the coldest temperatures in more than twenty years accompanied the snow, no one was sitting on the bench in our front yard.

Our World: Betsy Got Some Snow!

Betsy finally got some snow to enjoy!  It started snowing Saturday morning and came down at a pretty good clip.  We had three or more inches by the time it was over.

We didn’t have much traffic on the road in front of the house for much of the day.  The road was snow covered, as were our roses and flower beds.  The snow looked nice on the blocks of the wall near the road.

Betsy was delighted with the snow, but I’m not sure our Spring flowers were as happy about it as Betsy was.

Betsy took the picture above this past Sunday.  These are some of the spring flowers that shot up during our mild winter.  Of course now that they are sending up flower stalks, we get snow and cold!

But one thing about Tennessee weather is that if you don’t like it stay around for a day — it will change.

This picture was taken on Tuesday.  The snow is gone and we have a crocus in bloom.  I actually saw a crocus in bloom before the snow storm, but I didn’t get a picture.  It didn’t survive the storm.

It rained most of Wednesday, and just after dark the warning sirens here in the Glade went off.  Fortunately all we got was more rain.

Yesterday was a bright, warm, sunny, Spring-like day.  I can hardly wait to see what today brings.

Betsy Was Delighted

If you know anything at all about Betsy, you know how much she loves snow.  It snowed here in the Glade yesterday, and Betsy was in a very happy mood.  She didn’t go out and build a snowman (we didn’t get that much snow), but she did get out to enjoy it.

We had a wet snow that clung to just about everything.  It was what Betsy calls a perfect snow.

It came down pretty heavy for a while and coated  the bare branches of the trees in our yard in a layer of white.

We still have a few more days before Christmas, and we may not have a white Christmas, but the berries on the holly in front of our house looked very festive under all the snow.

I will admit that it was a pretty snow, and I’m glad Betsy’s happy.  Now that she’s had her snow, I’m ready for Spring.

Could That Be Snow?

July 21, 2011

Could that white on the mountain be snow? Taken on I-40 near Flagstaff, Arizona. June 14, 2011.

As we drove toward Flagstaff, Arizona, on the morning of June 14, I noticed some white on a mountain top ahead of us.  Could that possibly be snow?  Two days earlier we had been driving across Oklahoma and Texas and the temperature outside had been 102°.  That white must be some kind of fence or building.

I kept my eye on the mountain as we drove, and quite frankly I kept changing my mind.  “That is definitely snow!”  “That can’t be snow.”  My Beautiful Bride, the snow expert in the family, was busy on her laptop, so I didn’t say anything.

After another twenty miles or so, I finally told Betsy that I thought there was snow on top of the mountain ahead of us.  Of course, she thought I was out of my mind, but when she looked up, she, too, thought it was snow.  So, as any blogger would do, I pulled to the side of the road to get the picture above.  So what do you think, snow or no snow?

On Highway 89 east of Flagstaff. June 14, 2011.

When we got off the interstate and headed north, we got a little closer to the mountain.  That is definitely snow!

Looking back toward Flagstaff. June 14, 2011.

Betsy was definitely excited now.  When we were north of Flagstaff, we could look back at several peaks which still had a snow cover.  It was hard to believe we were looking at snow while driving across what the map said was desert.

Watery Wednesday #147: The Frozen Variety

July 6, 2011

Betsy enjoying the snow banks along a trail near the Visitor Center at Cedar Breaks National Monument, Utah. June 20, 2011.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

Cedar Breaks National Monument, near Cedar City, Utah, was a last minute addition to our itinerary.  After we arrived in Utah on June 18, our good friend Neal suggested that we visit Cedar Breaks.

We did an internet search and found that the roads in Cedar Breaks had been opened on June 17.  We also found we could include a visit to the Monument while driving to see some of the places we had planned to visit.

The elevation at Cedar Breaks varies from 10,100 to 10,500 feet.  As we approached the Monument, my little bride was delighted to see snow on the mountain tops.  As we drove into the park with snow piled high on both sides of the road, Betsy was like a kid in a candy shop, as you can see from the picture above.

We asked a ranger how much snow they had gotten over the winter, and he said they had 395 inches by May 31, which was the ‘official’ end of their winter season.  However, it had snowed several times since then, including the day before we got there.

If you know anything at all about Betsy, you know she was excited with all that snow around.  And, of course, we had to find a place where she could get out and walk in the snow.  She did not, however, make a snowman for me.
