Watery Wednesday #98: Nantahala River

White water rafting on the Nantahala River, North Carolina. May 30, 2009.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

I posted a similar picture on Photos by Senior Hiker a couple of days ago, but it’s still hot here on the Plateau and the subject is appropriate for Watery Wednesday, so you’re getting another picture.

I shot this on the Nantahala River in North Carolina in May, 2009.  The Nantahala is very popular for white-water rafting.  I took this photo at the end of the run through the final rapid in the river.  I’ll bet not a single person in this raft was complaining about the heat!

These folks are brave! That looks like quite a workout!

  2. Neal Says:

That is NOT for me. 🙂 Mildred use the word brave to describe them…I would probably use a different word. 🙂

  3. Jen Says:

What a way to beat the heat. Not for me.

White-water rafting? Looks more like white-knuckle to me! But then, I’m not really very good in the water – to me, swimming is just keeping myself from drowning when I’m in the water! So I guess I wouldn’t be much fun in a raft! Great photo, though.

  5. Tricia Says:

Oh yes, great WW shot & it looks like sooo much fun, but I don’t think I could bring myself to go cuz it’s so very swift & dangerous… but it’s GREAT to see pics of all that fun!!!

  6. Ruth Hiebrt Says:

Every time I see a picture like this I think,I want to be the one taking the shot, instead of being in the water.:)
    Blessings,Ruth

Not ready for the Nantahala just yet, but we are planning a trip down the French Broad. Wide and scenic and few rapids in the area we’ll be going. I love to see the wild river rafting, but observing is all I want to do. Nice shot.

It is nice seeing what the other brave souls enjoy. Never would I do this.

  9. Sandra Says:

this is a really good photo and its to bad the people on the raft don’t have a copy. I can feel the water splashing me now and we need it. it is HOT down here

this looks exciting! i’ve always wanted to try white water rafting–there is a river in southern Philippines that is great for this adventure. i hope to do it before i get too old.:p

  11. Rose Says:

That looks pretty good right now to me…even though it is not as hot as it was, it is still so humid that it is miserable to be outside for more than a few minutes.

  12. Ginny Hartzler Says:

No, they weren’t thinking about the heat, they were all too busy trying to stay alive!!! Yipes! I thought it was a good thing to stay away from dangerous situations. But the quality of this picture is so good, I enlarged it to see the expressions on their faces!

  13. Cheryl Says:

Two of my children and my husband have white-water rafted and loved it. I am not so sure about myself! But what a fun way to cool off!

  14. Judy Says:

Well, I don’t care how hot it gets out, I am not going! I would much rather wade in water less than a foot deep, and cool off that way…

  15. Hilda Says:

A little too exciting for my taste, but I’m sure they had great fun. Your photo is just fantastic!

  16. Kathy Ariano Says:

Amazing! I want to try that!!!

  17. J Bar Says:

    Great shot.

  18. MaryBeth Says:

That looks like so much fun—-but—-not for me. I guess I am just a coward.
    Neat shot though.
