Betsy and I went to Niagara Falls in 2002. We stayed on the Canadian side of the border, and in addition to visiting the falls we also visited some of the historical sites in the area.
Fort Erie is across the Niagara River from Buffalo, New York. It was part of the British fortification system along the river and served as a British supply base during the War of 1812. During that war the Americans captured Fort Erie twice, but withdrew back across the river each time. When the Americans abandoned the fort the second time they destroyed it, but the fort was rebuilt by the British after the war.

A most unusual event occurred in the Glade yesterday afternoon — it rained. It’s been several weeks since we’ve had a good rain fall. As I write this over an inch of rain has fallen since it started. Our lawn may actually turn green again.

Nice mosaic. I didn’t know about Fort Erie or didn’t remember my grade school history. Good info.
Glad you got rain we need some too. MB

It amazes me how quickly the lawns recuperate even with just a little rain. I hope you get a little more — or a lot more, but not all at once!
I loved the Canadian side of the falls so much!

yipee on the rain…… I would like to see the fort. there are 3 forts in Savannah area and I spent many happy hours in them, my children loved them. Fort Pulaski, Fort McAllister and the other one has slipped my memory, it is in downtown Savannah close to the riverfront, a small one.

My son and family are thinking about leaving for Niagra Falls tomorrow, but they hear it is not near as good unless you go on the Canadian side. They cannot do that because of my granddaughter’s passport. So they are heading in that direction, stopping in Pa., don’t know if they will make it all the way in just a week.

I like the action visible in these pictures.I wonder what it must have been like to live in those days? I am pretty sure that I don’t want to go back to that time,we would not have the computers and blogging.Sigh!

We are always drawn to old forts, etc.
We have actually had a couple or three days rain, though we did have a shower just a bit ago.

Glad to hear that you got some rain! This is an interesting collage about the fort. I think that I’ve been there a long time ago.
