We’ve had a very hot, dry summer here on the Plateau, which means we’ve spent a fair amount of time watering our roses. Happily I’m still able to bring in a rose for Betsy just about every day.
These are some of the roses that are new to our yard this year. Most of them are in the new flower bed we built along the road.
Two of our new roses honor presidents. The very fragrant white rose above is the John F. Kennedy rose.
The Ronald Reagan rose is not as fragrant, but is a beautiful red-and-white bicolor.
This cheery yellow is called Southern Belle. Since Betsy is a Virginia girl, I just knew we had to add this to our collection.
Sedona is a magnificent red-orange blend that is Rose of the Year (2010) from Jackson & Perkins Company.
We have a few other new roses, but I’ll save those for another occasion.

My hands down favorite today is the pure white one. But then J.F.K. was not that innocent and pure, was he? As a teenager, I just worshipped our first young Catholic president with children in the white house, and the whole Camelot thing. I was to be disillusioned more and more as time went on.

The roses are magnificent. Sadly, I can’t say we’ve had many this summer.

You are a true romantic, George! The roses are so gorgeous ! You and Betsy must be great gardeners to be able to grow such beautiful flowers!

It always amazes me how many different kinds of roses there are. I have to say George that these are really spectacular. They look perfect in every way. No “flaws” or “imperfections” at all (if you can even say that about a rose)! You’ve got a green thumb – or maybe it’s your lovely wife with the green thumb! Thanks for your visit.

Love love love it when you post images of your roses. We’ve been on a mission to find WHITE rose. We are fixing our backyard garden, slowly, very slowly and we decided that we would add more to our rose bushes in the backyard – creating a rose garden. But we don’t have any white roses. Any tip on what is the best white rose available on catalog?

Those new roses are incredible! How many varieties do you have again – one for every week of the year?? They are truly stunning photos!
Just catching up on all your posts! I sure miss my laptop. Got it back yesterday with the clamshell display all fixed, (over 800$$, but Apple paid!) but the space bar and volume buttons are now messed up, arghhhh! Took it right back today! I’m on hubby’s computer right now.

Your roses are beautiful.
Like the changes to your yard since you and Betsy moved there. New houses look stark, yours now looks like a loving couple lives there.
