Skywatch Friday: Going . . . Gone

The setting sun from Bull Creek Valley Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina. November 22, 2010.

This is my post for Skywatch Friday, a meme for sharing views of the sky from all over the world.  To see more, or to join and share your own photos of the sky, click HERE.

Betsy and I really enjoy traveling along the Blue Ridge Parkway just about any time of the year.  Last month we went to Asheville, North Carolina, and drove on the Parkway  from Asheville to Mount Mitchell.  We then drove back to Asheville in the late afternoon.

We got to the Bull Creek Valley Overlook just as the sun started to drop below Swan Mountain in the distance.  Of course, we had to stop and grab our cameras.

It’s amazing how quickly the sun can disappear.  It’s also amazing how the beautiful sky can go through so many colors so quickly.

Being an active sunset watcher, I am always amazed at how very fast it actually happens.

A beautiful sunset, I love watching them. Like you, I notice that once it starts setting, it goes very fast and colors and patterns change quickly. Then once it has set, it gets dark in a matter of minutes. I have spent quite a bit of time this year racing in the car to catch a good one and find a place with good visibility, only to not make it.

Such a beautiful sight…I keep telling myself I will stop taking sunsets…but I never can. Each one is unique and will never be seen again. Unless we photograph it.

The beauty of the sky never fails to amaze me. Last evening, the sky was really unusual here but of course, my camera was no where near!

Those are beautiful. I saw the most beautiful sunset last night. I pulled my car over and got out and took a few photos. I noticed that someone else saw me doing that, so they pulled over and jumped out and took a picture.
I will put one up on my blog later today. It probably didn’t come out at wonderful as the real thing, I will have to load them up and see. It was one of those “Wow” skies.

Gorgeous sunset! We enjoyed seeing a pretty sunset on our way home from Erie today. There was nowhere to pull over to take a picture, so the photograph is in my mind!
