Last Tuesday Betsy and I drove to Asheville, North Carolina, to visit the Biltmore Estate (we have season passes). Since we are beginning to see autumn colors here on the Plateau, we hoped we would see more color on the estate.
We were surprised to discover that there was even less color in Asheville than there was here. It was not a wasted trip, however, because we found a place from which we could get a nice view of the back of the house. The picture above was taken from that place.
It’s hard to get a good picture of the front of the house because of all the people and traffic. But here we got a nice picture of the back of the house with the water of a lagoon in the foreground.
I was able to get a closer shot of the house by using my telephoto lens.

What a beautiful place! We are having some beautiful colors, but not everywhere — you have to look a little harder than usual! But, of course, we didn’t really have any summer so there may be some confusion about what we see these early days of fall! Hope you have a wonderful week, George!

Great photographs, George. The Biltmore is beautiful in all seasons.
Leaves there are still a couple of weeks from “peak.” I think it surprises many people because Asheville seems to be so high in the mountains. In reality it is only 2,134 feet above sea level, probably lower elevation than your home in TN. The leaves are nearing peak in elevations above 4,500 feet.

George
I stayed at Asheville in the 1980’s on a US trip.
Someone mentioned to me that I should go and see Biltmore
House – I have a strange recollection that the place is a luxury hotel and golf resort – do I have the correct place or am I just imagining things – ha ha??????
Great scenery.
Cheers
Colin

My oh my what a place. On the list of American Castles. Could you even imagine living in a place like that—let alone clean up after your 27 children. Well ya gotta fill up all the rooms. LOL MB

I love Your photos George. The Biltmore House must be awesome place. Actually I do not know anything from it. When I was young, I visited in New York in the 70ties in the Biltmore hotel. That is pure history.
