As I mentioned in last week’s post for this meme, Betsy and I attended a high school football game earlier this month so that we could see Landon, Betsy’s grandson, perform as a member of his school’s marching band.

My children were in their high school band, so I know all to well, that you need to sit through a football game if you want to see the band. Some things never change. The boys for Bearden, Landon’s school, played hard. They’re the team in the dark jerseys. Unfortunately, the other team was much better.

Still, the Bearden boys didn’t give up, and we had to admire the school spirit. A Bearden touchdown was celebrated with fireworks.

But I have a confession to make. After sitting through the entire game I came to the conclusion that some of the best athletes on the field were the Bearden cheerleaders.

Hi George could you explain why this is called football, while the players don’t kick the ball but carry it around. The football, which we have is kicking the ball and only the keeper touches it with his hands. Players are not allowed to use their hands. I don’t like football, which you call soccer, I never watch it.

The athleticism of cheerleaders these days is amazing. Way different from when I was a cheerleader! Now they are more gymnast than anything – amazing!

What a fun post, George, and I do think it’s great the support you give Landon — even to sitting through a mediocre ball game! That’s family love!! I think you’re right, too, that the cheerleaders may be the best athletes on the field and, let’s face it, they’re a lot prettier to look at, too!! Fun look at your world today! Hope your week is off to a great start!

I know nothing about football, so would enjoy the cheerleaders and the band. I watch the Superbowl for two reasons: the commercials and halftime!!! Phil follows the Redskins. I’m so glad I checked out your previous post below, it is GORGEOUS!!! Our trees are not as abundant this year and I have had to hunt to get pictures.

Have once been to a college game in Minnesota – didn’t have a clue of what was going on -so much padding on the players, I wondered how they were able to move. However, like you, I was mesmerised by the cheer leaders – the cheer leaders of one of the teams did their routine at one of the many breaks – quarter time or half time to the music of “The Stripper” – wow, and at one stage I really thought the crowd was going to get the full works!!!
So much for the football – the routine put them to shame – ha ha.

For many men (not me, of course) the cheerleaders at college or NFL games are the favorite part of the game!
