Betsy and I have been to Bald River Falls, near Tellico Plains, Tennessee, several times. The waterfall is pretty and can be seen from the road. We went to see Bald River Falls in June, 2010, while Betsy was recovering from knee surgery since she could enjoy the waterfall without doing much walking.
We had known that there was a hiking trail (Bald River Trail #88) along the river above the falls, but we had never hiked it. So while Betsy was enjoying Bald River Falls, I took a quick hike along the trail to see what I could find.
What I found was three additional waterfalls and a cascade along Bald River above the main falls. The first new water fall I came upon was Kahuna Falls, which is just a short distance above Bald River Falls. Kahuna Falls is 10 – 15 feet high.
Continuing upstream, I came upon Bald River Cascades. The river tumbles down a series of steps, with a total drop about equal to the drop of Kahuna Falls.
I’ll share the last two waterfalls in a later post.

These are all wonderful! I especially love how the sun is shining behind the dense foliage in the last one.

I love the way you took the 3rd photo. Now you are making me miss going to the falls, but my companions are not available yet. I envy you and Betsy, who can go anytime you want.

I bet Betsy was so frustrated that she could not get to those extra hidden falls! I would have been. But thankfully you went and were able to bring her pictures! Maybe you will go back and take her in the spring?

The first falls in neat because of the two different falls in one.

Nice shots of the waterfalls!

Each of these waterfalls are so graceful–but especially the first one–because the water doesn’t cascade straight down, but meanders. So much more interesting. You captured these on just that one hike? Good hunting!

George, these are so beautiful…..the perfect place to be.

Beautiful! You do an excellent job capturing water…the light reflects and a person can see all the movement.

I think I know these falls but can’t quite place it. My photos of my Smokie waterfalls are on floppy disks and at the moment I have no way of looking at them.
I bet Betsy was a little disappointed she couldn’t go with you.
Great shots George!

Great shots! In the first photo, the water had extraordinary blue partly!

[…] As I mentioned in last week’s Watery Wednesday post, while Betsy, who was recovering from knee surgery, enjoyed Bald River Falls, I hiked along the river above the falls and found three other waterfalls and a cascade. I told about the first waterfall and the cascade in that previous post. […]
