Betsy and I went to one of our very favorites places — Fall Creek Falls State Park here in Tennessee — on the Friday after Thanksgiving to meet one of her Texas sons and family for lunch and a visit.
After a delicious lunch and much conversation we all went to the overlook to see Fall Creek Falls. There wasn’t a great deal of water going over the falls, and the sun was in the worst possible position for pictures, but I tried to get one anyway. I was shooting into the sun, so the falls and its bowl were in shadow. But the iron in the water gave the rocks of the waterfall a neat color that I just had to try and capture.

George, I should imagine that with plenty of rain, these falls would be spectacular.
In Victoria in the Snowy Mountains region, we have a Falls Creek, a winter skiing area. Diane B. and I have both as students been there in 61/62, prior to the then TPNG as teachers. Falls Creek in those days was pretty primitive – no mod-coms! The club, we stayed at in those primitive days, is now a 5 star, members only resort!!!
The Bogong Ski Club Lodge.
Ah – how times change.
It was also “high country pasture” for cattle in the summer months, now no longer – pity.
Your photo is quite remarkable – well done.
Cheers

The Falls is a great place to visit. I like hiking to the base, but coming back up is a pain.

Hi George, even if the water is not that heavy this time of the year, the height of the falls is awesome, i can almost visualize it when full!

That really is a lovely waterfall, and I think you captured it beautifully, in spite of the challenges with the light.

So this is the actual color? A strangely odd falls to be sure. I would like to compare it to another in different light with more water.

George, that is a wonderful shot! I like the wispy trails of the water!! I admit, the sun could have been in a better place, but you work with what you got, right?

It’s always good to capture the moment even if it’s not the “best” lighting.
Sounds like you had a good Thanksgiving!

Even without a lot of water it is a quite impressive falls.
In the conditions you had you captured it well George!
It reminds me of a falls we hiked to many years ago in New Hampshire.
