Betsy and I don’t always agree with the writers of the books we use to find waterfalls.  We haven’t been disappointed as much as we’ve been surprised.

We read about Little Missouri Falls in one of our books on Arkansas waterfalls.  The description in the book talked about a waterfall on the Little Missouri River with multiple drops in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas.  Since we were getting pretty good at navigating Forest Service roads, we decided we would check it out.

We found Little Missouri Falls (above), but we both thought it was more of a cascade than a falls.

Don’t get me wrong — it was very pretty, especially as the water rushed over the rocks.

A nice bonus was the color of the Little Missouri River below the falls.

It is still very pretty. Now George you know Betsy counts anything dropping any amount as a waterfall. 🙂

I guess, technically, a cascade is a series of waterfalls. The water IS falling, and it’s falling in a series of drops, so it seems that both “cascade” and “waterfall” would work. But, whatever you call it, it surely does make a beautiful picture. The river, too, with its unique color and the wonderful rock formations, is gorgeous.

Hi George, I think that is more like cascades, the turquoise colour of the river reminds me of the river at Jenolan Caves to an extent. Lovely shots.

You know you and Betsy make me want to go fishing even more…that one of the river is really appealing. Not saying it is a bad thing…just saying that so many of your shots look like such nice places to throw a line in the water.

Beautiful shots of the river and cascades!
When I think waterfall I think falling and a certain sound to that falling. Still, this was worth finding!
