When Betsy and I travel, I use a geo-tracker to record the GPS coordinates of the pictures I take. I can then use Google Earth to map the location and get satellite or terrain views of the area.
Shortly after starting to use Google Earth, I entered our address and got the image above. I was able to find our house, but I wasn’t all that impressed.
When we got back from a trip to North Carolina a few weeks ago, I took some pictures in the yard before turning off the geo-tracker. While looking at the track of our trip on Google Earth, I zoomed in at the end of the track and found a new image of our house. I’ll have to admit I was impressed — and a little shocked.
This new image makes it possible to see the house and the deck, including the table on the deck. The rose beds on each side of the driveway can be clearly seen, including the terracing we put in for the roses. I can see the round flowerbed around the yard lamppost, as well as the flower bed along the road.
The black dots on each side of the driveway are our container roses. There’s a black blob in the driveway near the road (indicated by ‘??’). I can’t be sure, but I think that might be me.
So who’s watching you?

This kind of stuff scares the poop out of me. Google caught my sister standing outside in her pajamas and robe, talking to my nephew and it shows when you Google her address. I would have been mortified!

That is funny. Perhaps that black blob is a nosy neighbor admiring your roses?? We just looked at our house the other night via Google earth and we saw a strange truck ON our property. We could not figure out who’s it was?!?

what is even scarier than the looking down view is the street view, where we can count your rose bushes. did you try the street view?

It IS scary. I’ve heard that those satellites can zoom in close enough to read a license plate. Big brother is definitely keeping an eye on us. But I have to admit, I did enjoy seeing this aerial view of your house and yard. 🙂

I agree, it’s pretty scary to know just how vulnerable we are, but that is a great view of your house and yard. Just one more aspect of the modern world to learn to live with. Hope your week is going well, George!

Pretty cool, huh. I google our area a lot. It is just fun. I bet that is you too. MB

This is very impressive. And it is the only reason I can think of for being a friendless recluse. Then no one cares to find out anything about you.

Big Brother is watching …

Interesting and yet somewhat un-nerving.

It is amazing…I would never have dreamed all of this technology when I was a kid. I would have enjoyed so much of it. I totally love google earth and can spend hours there….

We enjoyed doing that too with our remote area in the province, and it became an amazing group discussion for people who are living abroad, with lots of anecdotes and jokes only us know and can relate too. You still have a wide area to plant with, if i am there i will always be busy gardening. I am very familiar with your ‘mathematically’ arranged blocks for the roses and the incline of the approach, but looking down seems so strange though.

Google Earth is amazing and I use it a lot. Now though, not only is big brother watching, but so is everyone else. No more running around the yard in your underwear..

NSA says they can see us AND HEAR US and they are keeping tabs.

Scary, isn’t it? We passed the google earth car in town the other day and I told my daughter…well, I guess they got us! I don’t know why everyone is worried about the government…google is already monitoring us all.

Awesome photo and yes, that is probably you working in the roses! As Madsnapper said above, I live “driving up and down the street” while on google maps.
