My Dad turned 99 on Monday. He’s still in relatively good health, although he has gone down since my Mother died in June. He suffered a small stroke about three weeks ago, but is much better than when we last saw him a couple of weeks ago.
My brother and sister-in-law came down from Indiana this week, so we all got together last night to celebrate Dad’s birthday. Cracker Barrel is one of Dad’s favorite places so we got together to celebrate. All three of his children (do I qualify as a child when I’m pushing 70?) and our spouses were there.

Betsy, my sister Janet, brother-in-law Charlie, George, Dad, sister-in-law Bonnie and brother Ken. August 31, 2011.
The Cracker Barrel staff came to the table and sang Happy Birthday to Dad and presented him with some apple cobbler and ice cream. I think that was Dad’s favorite part of the meal.

That’s amazing — 99 years old!!! Happy Birthday to your dad.
And yes, you’re still his child! (And a very, very young ‘pushing 70’ you are!)

What happy pictures! I have just come from Betsy’s blog, where I was asking her for pictures of this, so this is a nice surprise! Yes, we love Cracker Barrel, too! They have great french toast and roast beef. How wonderful you were all able to get together for this celebration. And I am glad to hear that your dad is doing better, I had been wondering ever since the small stroke. You look so much like him. You still qualify as a spring chicken, George, because you are younger than Phil!!!

How wonderful for him to be here surrounded with his CHILDREN?? {If your Mom was there too, she would still call you her BABY, right??}
So glad Dad had a nice birthday and I know your Mom WAS there in spirit smiling over your family.
I love Cracker Barrel too!

What a treasured photo of your Dad and all of you on his special day. I am remembering Dad Adams in my prayers. It is nice to see a pic of Janet as I have heard a lot about her from Betsy.

How wonderful your dad is doing so well and celebrating 99 years. That is awesome. My grandmother lived to be 98, and wanted to reach 100 and be on TV.

Such a long and wonderful life your Dad has lead. I hope his health continues to improve. I know he still misses your mother a great deal. It must be so very hard after so many years together.
How wonderful for him to have all of his children with him on this momentous occasion.

OH! Yes! As long as you have parents you are a kid! Always and forever. When they pass you become the head of the family…never to be a kid again. (sigh…I know)
He looks wonderful! I’m so happy all of you could be there…every day is fleeting now.
