SkyWatch Friday: Moon Over the Glade

The moon over Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. June 22, 2010.

(Note:  All pictures may be enlarged by clicking on them once or twice.)

This is my post for Skywatch Friday, a meme for sharing views of the sky from all over the world.  To see more, or to join and share your own photos of the sky, click HERE.

I was going through some of my archived photos when I came across this picture of the moon taken back in June, 2010.  Looking more closely at the photo, I noticed craters and ridges on the lower left side of the moon.  This may be the best picture of the moon I have taken that shows these features.  I’m posting a photo that is large and can be enlarged twice.  That’s the best way to see the craters and ridges.  I hope you find the photo as interesting as I do.

It looks like there is a growing tree on the meadow, but it looks cold and lifeless! This morning i saw that same moon in my west window, I actually took a shot also. Happy Weekend George….and Betsy.

Great moon shot. See the face with the 0 mouth. It is saying ‘Oh George you caught my pimples and everything. LOL

About your comment on my skywatch title. I pictured Snoopy sitting on top of his doghouse writing and you were the only one to pic up on that. Too funny. MB

And I DID enlarge it, twice. Then you can see the craters very plainly, and their edges. My first thought was that this is the best moon picture you have ever taken!! And so it is!

Very fascinating photo – yes, I did as you suggested and enlarged it twice! I really wonder if the craters show up that well precisely because it is not a full moon. Truly an excellent shot George! Thanks for sharing!!
