Watery Wednesday # 19

The 14th fairway of Druid Hills. February, 2006.

We finally got some snow here in the Glade — not much, but enough to give us a white coating.

The picture above (which can be enlarged by clicking on it) was taken in 2006, but it is representative of the way things looked yesterday and today.  The picture was taken on the 14th fairway of the Druid Hills golf course.  (I wonder how many golf balls are at the bottom of that pond?)

I like this picture because of the gray skies, the white coating of snow, the bare trees, the dark waters and the reflection in the water.  All in all it does a pretty good job of showing why we think the Glade is beautiful any time of the year.

    This is postcard perfect George!
    The reflection is beautiful.

My nephew works part-time at a golf course and was telling me not long ago there was golf balls all over the top of one of their ponds. I guess some people still brave the elements.

George: Snow does give a wonderful covering of white to the world. someone probably dives and collects the golfballs from the lake. That is a business for them to make money.

That could so be taken just around the corner from where I live. Looks just like my surroundings. Now our ponds are frozen and there has not been any snow until yesterday. Tonight there was a proper layer that is just about melting away again now.
Great contratst in your picture George. Very enjoyable.

Almost looks like ice should be on lake, but you are too far south probably for that … but not too far south for an occasional snow. Still, I bet that water’s cold!

    • seniorhiker's avatar seniorhiker Says:

That picture was taken in 2006, but we have ice on much larger lakes this winter. I’m not sure it’s thick enough to walk on, but we definitely have iced-over lakes.

I love the reflection in the pond; it is such a peaceful scene in spite of the cold. Thanks for stopping by my WW post. By the way, I have a link under the photo that will take you to a series of photos I took at that park. One of the pics shows the complete statue. Cheers from rainy CA.

I love the reflections in the water, and the way there are no hoirzontal or vertical lines! They are all angles, and that seems to keep your eye moving through the photo!
    Thanks for sharing!
