I have only recently begun going through some of the pictures I took when Betsy and I visited the Grand Canyon in June, 2011.  That was during our first trip out west, and the Grand Canyon was everything we were told it would be.  I took many more pictures than I should have, but I must admit that pictures can’t really do the canyon justice.  This picture was taken at Maricopa Point on the morning of June 15, 2011.

I got this photo of the Grand Canyon from the Rim Trail on a June morning in 2011.  The Grand Canyon is awesome from any observation point.  We never got tired of the view.

Betsy and I visited the Grand Canyon in 2011, during our first trip to the West.  The canyon was indeed grand, and each view seemed more spectacular than the last.  I got this picture at Pine Creek Vista.

When Betsy and I visited the Grand Canyon in June, 2011, we reached the eastern end of the canyon in the early afternoon.  We thus had the time to stop at a couple of overlooks as we drove to Grand Canyon Village, where we had our reservations for our stay.  I got this photo at Lipan Point along our way.

When Betsy and I were younger (and healthier) we used to do quite a bit of traveling and hiking.  Now those days are mostly over, at least trips that involve hiking.  On those long-ago trips I took thousands of pictures, many of which I haven’t worked with.  So now, especially during the winter months, I can relive those trips by going through my photos.

In 2011 Betsy and I took our first trip west of the Mississippi River.  We visited several national parks on the trip, one of which was the Grand Canyon National Park.  We came into the park ‘the back way’, and our first view of the canyon was at Desert View, on the eastern end of the park.  What an awesome introduction to the Grand Canyon!

In June, 2011, Betsy and I visited the Grand Canyon.  It was everything we were told it would be and then some.  I don’t think any picture could do the scene justice, bt we took many anyway.  This picture of the canyon was taken from Yaki Point.

SkyWatch Friday: Grand Canyon Sunset

The Grand Canyon at Sunset from Mather Point. June 15, 2011.

This is my post for Skywatch Friday, a meme for sharing views of the sky from all over the world.  To see more, or to join and share your own photos of the sky, click HERE.

Betsy and I were fortunate enough to see two sunsets at the Grand Canyon.  This sunset was captured from Mather Point near the Grand Canyon Visitor Center.  Pictures just can’t do the scene justice.

Watery Wednesday #148: The Colorado River

July 13, 2011

The Grand Canyon and Colorado River from the Desert View overlook. June 14, 2011.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

Betsy and I got our first look at the Grand Canyon at the Desert View overlook on the eastern end of the park.  That overlook also provided a good view of the Colorado River.  I always thought that ‘colorado’ meant ‘color red’, but the river looked more green than red.  I’m not complaining, though, the sight was spectacular.
