Cumberland Mountain State Park is a relatively small state park near Crossville, Tennessee.  The main feature of the park is Byrd Lake (above).

The lake is formed by a dam capped by seven arches carrying a road.  The dam is the largest masonry project completed by the CCC.  It was substantially rebuilt in 2010-2011.

The park has camping sites, hiking trails, boating and a swimming pool.  One of the things we like best about Cumberland Mountain isa the restaurant overlooking the lake.  We enjoy their delicious buffets several times during the year.

Last week Betsy and I went to Cumberland Mountain State Park near Crossville and walked along the shore of Byrd Lake.

The fall color was just starting to show, but the quiet waters of the lake gave us some beautiful reflections.

On Sunday, May 15, Betsy’s youngest son, Jeff, came up to the Glade for a visit.  It’s been a while since he was up here (he lives in Chattanooga), so we took him to Cumberland Mountain State Park near Crossville to celebrate Mother’s Day (a little late) and his birthday (May 14).

Cumberland Mountain has a wonderful restaurant (pictured above) and they serve a delicious buffet.  As you can see, the restaurant has many windows that offer beautiful views of Byrd Lake.

Byrd Lake was created in the 1930s when the park was established.  The CCC built the dam on Byrd Creek which formed the lake.

The structure in the photo is Byrd Creek Dam in Cumberland Mountain State Park near Crossville, Tennessee.  The dam was built by the CCC in the 1930s and is the largest masonry structure built by them.  The dam includes a bridge supported by the seven arches above the dam proper.

Betsy and I went to Cumberland State Park to have dinner at restaurant, but it was closed for dinner.  They’re still on their winter schedule until April 1.  We celebrated our monthaversary at another restaurant in town.

We had a beautiful day on the Plateau and we made the most of it by working in the yard.

I Wish I Wasn’t Here!!!

August 4, 2008

It looks as if I’m going to be spending most of the day today at the Cumberland Medical Center (picture above).  I’ll be having surgery to repair a hernia.  Doesn’t that sound like fun!?!

If everything goes right it should be same-day surgery, and I will be home by late afternoon.  Everything should be just fine, but I can’t help but wish I was spending the day just about anyplace else.

Actually I suppose I shouldn’t complain.  It’s good that there is a medical center and surgeons right here in Crossville to do the needed surgery.  Things could definitely be much worse, but I still wish I wasn’t here!
