This is my post for the Our World meme.  This meme is a second generation of My World Tuesday created by Klaus Peter and is hosted by five wonderful ladies.  To learn more about our world or to join and share your part of the world, click HERE.

All of the pictures in this collage were taken in our yard during May.  And although all of our iris blossoms are now gone, some of these will bloom again in autumn, so we will be able to enjoy them again.

The iris on the top left is Autumn Bugler, while Stellar Lights is on the right.  The irises on the bottom, from left to right, are Cable Car, Electric Shock, and English Charm.

Iris in Our Yard

I won’t claim that Betsy and I have a grand master plan for our yard, but we do try to have color in the yard in each season.  Irises provide color between the Spring bulbs (daffodils and tulips) and our roses.

We have several different varieties in our yard — the collage above shows five of them.  In the top row I have Clarence iris on the left and Waltz Across Texas on the right.

The bottom row shows (from left to right) Cantina, Blatant and Tennessee Vol.  It should be no surprise that Tennessee Vol is Betsy’s favorite — she’s one of the most dedicated University of Tennessee Volunteers fans you will ever meet.

Tulips in our Yard

2013 -- Tulips

(Note:  All pictures may be enlarged by clicking on them once or twice.)

Old Man Winter kept hanging around so long this year that we were beginning to think that our tulips would never start blooming.  But fortunately they have bloomed and we’ve enjoyed their bright color in our yard.

The tulip in the upper left of this collage is Golden Oxford, while Guinevere is the tulip on the upper right.  The tulips on bottom (from left to right) are Red Dynasty, Purissima and World’s Favourite.

Earlier this month Betsy and I visited the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.  We go several times a year, and this time we hoped to be able to see the tulips in bloom.

As you can see from the picture above, our timing was just about perfect.  There were tulips at the entrance to the estate, but we went on to the Conservatory and Walled Garden.

The Walled Garden is a formal ornamental garden.  Part of the Walled Garden is a permanent rose garden, but plantings in the remainder of the garden are changed throughout the year.

After walking through the tulips, Betsy and I walked to a hill where we could look down on the Walled Garden.  In this picture you can see the design of the garden.  The flower beds on the other side of the arbor are mirror images of the beds on this side.

More Daffodils from our Yard

2013 -- Daffodils II

(Note:  All pictures may be enlarged by clicking on them once or twice.)

Once Spring decided to stay in the Glade, it didn’t take long for most of our daffodils to bloom.  Both Betsy and I have enjoyed finding new blossoms in the yard each morning.

Orange Progress is the daffodil on the upper left, and Pink Charm is the daffodil on the right.  The daffodils on the lower row are (from left to right) Chromacolor, Mount Hood, and Fortissimo.

We are now enjoying tulips in bloom.  The warmer weather makes it possible for Betsy and I to spend more time working in the yard.  That’s almost as good as going on a hike.

Spring Is Busting Out All Over

2013 -- Daffodils

(Note:  All pictures may be enlarged by clicking on them once or twice.)

It took a while, but it looks as if Spring has finally arrived on the Cumberland Plateau.  We finally have daffodil blooming in our yard.  Five of our daffodil varieties are shown in the collage above.

The daffodil on the upper left is Pink Silk, while Spellbinder is on the upper right.  On the bottom I have Breck’s Colossal on the left, Las Vegas daffodil in the middle, and Wild Carnival.

It’s great to be able to work out in the yard and to see these beauties in blooming in the flower beds.

Playing with my Macro Lens

February 27, 2013

(Note:  All pictures may be enlarged by clicking on them once or twice.)

These pictures are from my archives, but crocus blossoms gave me a chance to play with my macro lens.

I don’t think any single picture is particularly special, but taken as a group they do give me a chance to enjoy the beauty of Spring.

Even the simplest of flowers have beautiful details.

Our First Signs of Spring

We have had some cold weather over the past few days, so winter is not quite ready to leave us.  But there are a couple of hopeful signs.  I noticed a couple of days ago that our crocus has begun to bloom.

The pictures aren’t very good, but the blossoms do promise that Spring will soon be here.

Yesterday, these crocus, given to us by my Dad when we bought this house, gave us another hint of the promise of Spring.

Monday Betsy and I went to Asheville, North Carolina, to the Biltmore Estate.  We went primarily to visit the Conservatory — something we do a couple of times each year — and to do some walking around the estate.

As we were walking through one of the gardens back to the car, we spotted this daffodil in bloom under a tree.  Some of our daffodils are up, but they are a long way from blooming.  It was a surprise to find this one in bloom.

As I mentioned, Betsy and I went to enjoy the flowers in the Conservatory.  We spent quite a bit of time in the Orchid Room, enjoying beautiful blossoms like the one above.

We Got Some Rain

June 8, 2012

Raindrops on Pink Perfection lily, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. June 5, 2012.

(Note:  All pictures may be enlarged by clicking on them once or twice.)

We end through a hot dry spell several weeks ago, but then the weather man said a cold front was coming through bringing rain with it.  The front came through, but the rain didn’t.  This happened again — and again.  (Fairfield Glade has five golf courses.  I think the Community Club has arranged for a giant umbrella to be installed so as not to interfere with golf rounds.)

But finally, on Monday night, we got some rain.  The picture above shows what we saw when we looked up at our 7-foot tall Pink Perfection lily.

I think the roses also appreciated the rain.  The water drops on this rose look like little jewels.

We still have an iris in bloom, and it, too, seemed to appreciate the rain.

We had gone out early to check the flowers in our yard, which is something we do just about every morning.  But on this day the water drops were as beautiful as the blossoms.
