Crescendo (above) is one of our newer roses.  It was Jackson & Perkins’ Rose of the Year a couple of years ago.

Memorial Day, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. June 20, 2012.

Memorial Day did actually begin blooming on Memorial Day a few years ago.  It’s a beautiful, stately bush many wonderful blossoms.

Moonstone, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. June 13, 2012.

Moonstone is one of our container roses.  The blossoms seem to get more beautiful as the rose bush ages.

Peace, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. June 20, 2012.

Peace is said to be the world’s favorite rose.  It that’s true, I can understand why.  Peace was one of the first roses we got when we started our rose garden.

Sedona is another relatively new rose for us.  The blossoms are a beautiful red/orange at the beginning, although the color changes as the blossom ages.  This rose got its name from the colors of the Arizona desert.

As the name implies, Perfume Delight (above) has a delightful fragrance.  It also has a pretty pink color.

Pink Peace, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 30, 2012.

Another pink rose (this one’s a little darker pink) with a nice fragrance is Pink Peace.  It’s one of several descendants of the Peace rose that we have in our yard.

Ronald Reagan rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. June 6, 2012.

Ronald Reagan doesn’t have much of a fragrance, but it is a beautiful bicolor rose along the front of our yard.

Sonia, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 12, 2012.

Sonia is a salmon pink rose that is a favorite with florists.  We enjoy it’s fruity fragrance and classic form in our yard.

Summer Nights rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. June 9, 2012.

Summer Nights is the newest rose in our yard.  I have no idea how it got its name, but we like its beautiful colors.

Peppermint Splash is one of Betsy’s favorite roses.  It definitely has one of our more unusual blossoms.  Betsy says it reminds her of peppermint stick candy, which probably accounts for its name.

Perfect Moment rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 3, 2012.

There probably isn’t such a thing as a perfect rose, but it’s hard to beat the colors of Perfect Moment.

Pink Promise rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 30, 2012.

Pink Promise does a good job of living up to its name.  It produces many of these beautiful pink blossoms throughout the season.

Radiant Perfume rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 30, 2012.

Radiant Perfume has both a delightful fragrance and a brilliant color.  It’s a bright spot in our garden each time it blooms.

Sheer Magic rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 28, 2012.

Sheer Magic is a beautiful bicolor with a very pleasant fragrance.  We enjoy the soft pastel colors as much as we do the fragrance.

Bella’roma has soft pastel colors and a delightful fragrance, which accounts for her name.

Fragrant Cloud, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 28, 2012.

Fragrant Cloud, as you can imagine, has a very good fragrance.  This rose is in our small rosebud along the driveway.

Melody Parfumeé, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 2, 2012.

Another fragrant rose in our garden is Melody Parfumeé.  The fragrance is wonderful, but we like it just as much for its unusual color.

Midas Touch, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 27, 2012.

Midas Touch isn’t quite as fragrant as the others in this post, but it does have a rich yellow color that draws attention anyway.

Mister Lincoln, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 27, 2012.

Mister Lincoln is another variety that I’ve had for many years, and this plant is one of the first we got when we started our rose garden here in the Glade.  The blossoms of Mister Lincoln don’t last as long as some of the newer reds, but its wonderful fragrance and classic form allows it to remain a favorite in our garden.

Acapella is one of our newer roses, and it resides in a container along our driveway.  In addition to beautiful color, Acapella also has a delightful fragrance.

Frederic Mistral rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. June 1, 2012.

One of our most fragrant roses is Frederic Mistral.  This rose has a tendency to branch all over the place, so it it requires a lot of pruning.  But the the fragrance and color keeps it in our garden.

Glowing Peace rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 1, 2012.

Glowing Peace is another offspring of the famous Peace rose.  I really like the colors of this beauty.

Lemon Spice rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 23, 2012.

Another relatively new rose for us is Lemon Spice.  Both the color and the fragrance are ‘spicy’.

Medallion rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 1, 2012.

Medallion certainly takes the prize as the rose with the largest blossoms in our yard.  I first had this variety nearly 40 years ago, although we’ve had this particular bush for only a couple of years.  I think this rose definitely deserves a medal of some sort.

We haven’t had much success growing white roses — we’ve lost more white roses than all other colors combined.  But Sweet Freedom (above) is a rose that keeps blooming for us year after year.

Tahitian Sunset rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 30, 2012.

This multi-colored rose is named Tahitian Sunset.  I haven’t been to Tahiti, but I imagine that a sunset on that island contains these colors.

Tiffany rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 3, 2012.

Tiffany was new in our garden last year.  It has a soft pink blossom with a hint of yellow at the base.

Touch of Class rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 28, 2012.

Touch of Class is an elegant-looking rose which we have enjoyed for a couple of years now.

Wildfire rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 25, 2012.

Wildfire has an orange-red color that is close enough to Tennessee Orange to become a favorite with Betsy.

April in Paris is a fairly small plant with blossoms that are a beautiful soft pink with a touch of lavender.  It has been in our yard for several years now.

Deep Secret rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 19, 2012.

Deep Secret is one of the darkest red roses we have.  It was new to us last year, but like its color and form.

Dolly Parton Rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 3, 2012.

I’ve read that the Dolly Parson rose got its name because it was so ‘plump’.  I think the less I say about that, the better.

Elizabeth Taylor rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 3, 2012.

Elizabeth Taylor was another beautiful lady, and the rose named after her is one of the pretty pink roses we enjoy.

Gemini rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 1, 2012.

Gemini is one of my favorite roses.  I don’t know if it gets its name because of the two colors or because of the way it looks and the way it smells.  In either case, it is a beautiful rose.

Rose Summer of Love, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 26, 2012.

We’ve only had Summer of Love in our garden for a couple of years, but we really like the colors in the blossoms of this rose as they open.  The colors seem to change each day.

Sundance rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 30, 2012.

This bright and sunny rose, Sundance, has graced our yard for several years.

Rose Sweetness, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 1, 2012.

The lavender/purple color of Sweetness is somewhat unusual.  Sweetness is another of our container roses.  It has a nice fragrance to go with its beautiful form.

Veterans’ Honor, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 28, 2012.

Betsy really likes red roses, and Veterans’ Honor is one of her favorites.  This rose doesn’t have a lot of fragrance, but it grows fairly tall and is usually loaded with blossoms.  It’s not unusual to see 10 – 15 beautiful blossoms at one time.

Rose Welcome Home, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 2, 2012.

Welcome Home is in our newest flower bed near the road.  This cheery rose greets us as we turn into the driveway, and it provides a very welcome home indeed.

I’ve been growing roses for almost 40 years, long before I knew Betsy.  After we got married and bought this house, I did in fact promise Betsy a rose garden.  But little did I know how much she would influence the roses that went into that garden.

How, you ask?  Well, Betsy was born and raised in Virginia, so Southern Belle rose (above)  seemed a natural choice for a garden.

Bewitched rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 27, 2012.

Do you remember the song ‘Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered’?  Betsy had that effect on me, and so Bewitched is now in our garden.

Strike It Rich rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 29, 2012.

After meeting Betsy and getting to know her, I knew I had found a real gem.  Is it any surprise then, that Strike It Rich is now in our yard?

Love and Peace rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 1, 2012.

Betsy has brought a lot of Love and Peace into my life, as well as this rose into our garden.

Rose About Face, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 28, 2012.

About Face is one of our most unusual roses.  It gets its name from the fact that the outside of the petal is darker than the inside, which is the reverse of most roses.

Aromatherapy rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 27, 2012.

Aromatherapy Rose has a beautiful pink color and a delightful fragrance, which is probably the reason for the name.

Rose Chicago Peace, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 28, 2012.

Chicago Peace is one of several descendants of the Peace rose that we have in our yard.  Chicago Peace has more dark pink and orange than the original Peace rose contained.  Since I grew up near Chicago, it’s always nice to see this rose in bloom.

Double Delight rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. May 3, 2012.

If I had to pick only one rose as my all-time favorite, it would probably be Double Delight.  The blossoms of this rose have a beautiful form and wonderful color.  The fragrance is also wonderful.

Elle rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. April 27, 2012.

Elle is one of our newer roses.  It has beautiful pastel-colored blossoms.
