Betsy and I enjoy the  beach at Ocean Isle, North Carolina, for many reasons, but the sunrises we can enjoy from our room definitely ranks high on the list.  I captured this image on our most recent trip to Ocean Isle Beach in early December.  Upon seeing sights like this the most appropriate response is “The heavens declare the glory of God”.

A Foggy Morning Sunrise

I’ve often talked about how much Betsy and I love watching the sunsets when we visit Mt. Nebo State Park in Arkansas. But we also enjoy catching the sunrises from Sunrise Point in the park.

A few years ago we were greeted by a blanket of fog in the valley below Sunrise Point. As you can see from the photo above, it was almost hard to tell that there was a valley and city below us.

As the sky got lighter we began seeing the trees and the tops of hills in the valley below. In the distance we could make out the mountains on the other side of the valley.

Fields and buildings began coming into view

Finally parts of the Arkansas River came into view, reflecting the red of the sky above it.

What a gorgeous way to begin a day!

Wyoming Morning

January 29, 2019

Betsy and I had a long day of driving when we started home from our western trip, so we left Jackson, Wyoming, while it was still dark. Getting up that early is not much fun, but on this day it paid off beautifully.

The sun started to rise about the time we reached the Hoback Canyon. Although we couldn’t see the sun, the clouds in the sky above us turned a brilliant crimson. When we rounded a curve we could see the sky reflected in the Hoback River (above) so of course we had to stop.

We really had problems deciding which was the most amazing — the reflection in the water or the sky above.

The sky remained gorgeous even as the canyon widened. It was an amazing morning and left us with unforgettable memories of Wyoming.

Mornings at the Beach

Betsy and I really enjoy our visits to Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.  For the past few years we’ve been going in both May and early December.  (We can’t stay away from that delicious Calabash seafood for too long!)

Although the weather is usually warmer in May, we enjoy our December visits because we get a good view of the sunrise from the balcony of our room at the Islander Inn, as you can see from the photo above.

So, although we are on vacation, both Betsy and I make an attempt to get up each morning at sunrise.

On some mornings there is a thick bank of clouds on the horizon,

although patches of blue were often soon seen in other parts of the sky.

Some mornings all we could do was stand in awe at the beauty of God’s creation.

Early to Rise

June 15, 2016

(Note:  All pictures may be enlarged by clicking on them once or twice.)

“Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.”

I wonder if they still teach that saying from Old Richard’s Almanac?  I’ve given up on the wealthy and wise part of the saying, but my Beautiful Bride and I are hoping the healthy benefits of early rising hold true.

A nearly full moon greeted us as we left the house one early morning. May 23, 2016.

It isn’t always easy to get out of bed (and out of the house) before the crack of dawn, but we try.  Fortunately we are often greeted by a beautiful sight such as the one above.

Some days are cloudy, but there is still beauty to be found.

Clear skies have a spectacular predawn beauty of their own.  The colors are amazing.

In addition to beautiful skies, we are usually treated to the songs of birds as we make our way around the golf course.  The peace and serenity can be felt.

Good Morning World! The sun popping over the mountains. May 4, 2016.

And we know we can count on the sun to rise over the mountains to the east and show us the way home.
