When Betsy and I were younger and more mobile we enjoyed visiting waterfalls. An added bonus to that hobby was that we could often explore along the banks of streams, especially in state or national forest areas. I captured this photo of the Tellico River here in Tennessee a few years ago. We were on our way to Bald River Fa;;s. and stopped to explore the bank of the Tellico River.

Although neither Betsy nor I play golf, we do live on a golf course. And we have found the golf course to be perfect for early morning walks (before the golfers hit the course) or for early evening walks (after the golfers have quit for the day). I got this picture on one of our early morning walks around the back nine/

Often clouds in the sky mean that some nasty weather is on the way. But sometimes clouds in the sky are brimming with joy and are saying “Look up! Enjoy this beautiful world that we have!”

On April 21, 2001, Betsy and I spent the day at Fall Creek Falls State Park here in Tennessee. This wasn’t our first date, but it was still very special. For one thing, that was where I got my first kiss. Another thing was that it began our twenty-year quest to find waterfalls.
We’ve managed to get back to Fall Creek Falls on April 21 almost every year since then. We visit the waterfalls — the picture above was taken this year on April 21. (Fall Creek Falls is on the left and Coon Creek Falls is on the right,) We were happy to see that in spite of the drought that hit this part of the state last year and earlier this year there was water going over both falls. We’ve seen less water on other visits.
That first year we hiked to the base of the falls, which is something we are no longer able to do. I do, however, still try to get a kiss when we visit there!

Now that March has arrived I’m beginning to do some serious thinking about Spring. I know that Old Man Winter isn’t going to give up without a fight, and we will most likely have at least one more round of bad (cold) weather. But even so, I’m looking forward to green grass, flowers in bloom and blue skies. On a March day a few years ago I captured these redbud blossoms against a beautiful blue sky. What could be more beautiful?

The Smokies are are wonderful to visit any time of the year, and Betsy and I try to get to them as often as we can. I think Spring is our favorite season for visiting, but Autumn can be amazing as well. We often drive the Foothills Parkway, which is technically outside the park, but which does provide beautiful views of the mountains. I got this picture of the sky and the mountains from the parkway a few years ago.

I sometimes feel as if I don’t spend enough time looking up == specifically looking up at the sky. There is so much variety and grandeur in the sky above us: fascinating clouds and vibrant colors. It’s a shame that all of this is missed because I spend so much time looking at things on the ground.

One thing about March is that you never know what the weather is going to be like. It can be Winter one day and Spring the next. Sometimes you can have both Winter and Spring on the same day. The photo above, which I captured a few years ago does a pretty good job of capturing both seasons in one picture — ice covered branches against a beautiful blue sky.

We used to get some fairly decent snowfalls when we first moved to Fairfield Glade, but in recent years we’ve gotten more ice and frost instead of snow. But even an icy golf course pond can be beautiful on a bright January morning, as this picture shows. I like the reflection as well as the frost covered grasses on the edge of the pond.

My Beautiful Bride loves snow (me not so much!) — she can hardly wait to get outside when it’s snowing. Unfortunately we haven’t had much snow here in Fairfield Glade over the past few years. but Betsy is hoping that changes this year.
