Watery Wednesday #85: Ormond Beach Morning

April 28, 2010

Morning at Ormond Beach, Florida. August 7, 2009.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

When Betsy and I were at Ormond Beach in Florida last August we had an ocean-front room and were able to enjoy a sunrise from the balcony.  For a brief moment the sun turned the water a dark red-gold, making a good subject for Watery Wednesday.

Watery Wednesday #84: Fall Creek Falls

April 21, 2010

Fall Creek Falls, Fall Creek Falls State Park, Tennessee. April 21, 2008.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

The picture above, of Fall Creek Falls here in Tennessee, was taken in 2008.  If you’ve visited here for any length of time,  you know that Fall Creek Falls State Park is the absolute favorite park for Betsy and me.

I’m posting this picture on Watery Wednesday because April 21 is the anniversary of our first ‘big’ date back in 2001.  We spent the day there talking, hiking, seeing waterfalls and getting to know each other.  That day was also memorable because that was when I got my first kiss from Betsy.

We’ve gone back to Fall Creek Falls every year to enjoy the magic and we’ll be going back again today.  Who knows, I might even get another kiss!

Watery Wednesday # 83: Niagara River

April 14, 2010

The Niagara River from the White Water Walk, Niagara Falls, Ontario.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

This picture shows the Niagara River below the falls.  We were on White Water Walk, which is a boardwalk at the bottom of the gorge.  As you can tell, the boardwalk is almost at the water level.  I think the bridge is the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge from the U. S. (left) to Canada (right).

Watery Wednesday #82: L’Eau d’Or Falls

April 7, 2010

L'Eau d'Or Falls, Tallulah Gorge State Park, Georgia. October 14, 2009.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

L’Eau d’Or (Water of Gold) Falls is another of the major waterfalls in Tallulah Gorge State Park in Georgia.  This waterfall can be viewed from the North Rim Trail.  I took this picture on a cloudy, rainy day, so there is not much ‘gold’ in the water.

Watery Wednesday #81: Hurricane Falls

March 31, 2010

Hurricane Falls, Tallulah Gorge State Park, Georgia. October 14, 2009.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

Hurricane Falls is one of five major waterfalls in Tallulah Gorge State Park in Georgia.  This is one of our favorite places to visit and hike.  The picture above was taken in October, 2009.  We hiked to be base of Hurricane Falls, but this picture was taken from from the South Rim of the canyon.

Watery Wednesday # 80: Byrd Creek Dam

March 24, 2010

Byrd Creek Dam, Cumberland Mountain State Park, Crossville, Tennessee. March 23, 2010.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

The structure in the photo is Byrd Creek Dam in Cumberland Mountain State Park near Crossville, Tennessee.  The dam was built by the CCC in the 1930s and is the largest masonry structure built by them.  The dam includes a bridge supported by the seven arches above the dam proper.

Betsy and I went to Cumberland State Park to have dinner at restaurant, but it was closed for dinner.  They’re still on their winter schedule until April 1.  We celebrated our monthaversary at another restaurant in town.

We had a beautiful day on the Plateau and we made the most of it by working in the yard.

Today I’m thankful for the beauty of blue skies.

Watery Wednesday #79: St. Stephen’s Green

March 17, 2010

St. Stephen's Green, Dublin, Ireland. May 16, 2002.

In May, 2002, I was sent by my employer to so some work at our Dublin, Ireland, facility.  The hours were long, but one evening one of my Irish colleagues showed me around downtown Dublin.  I thought the picture above, of St. Stephen’s Green in Dublin, would make a perfect Watery Wednesday post for St. Patrick’s Day.

Watery Wednesday #77: Cedar Falls

March 3, 2010

Cedar Falls, Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas. February 24, 2010.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

Cedar Falls, in Petit Jean State Park, is probably one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Arkansas.  Betsy and I visited Cedar Falls for the first time in November, 2006, and at that time we hiked to the base of the falls.  Last week we settled for viewing the falls from an observation deck on the rim of the canyon.  We had another hike we wanted to take, and besides, we had those new telephoto lenses to try out!

Cedar Falls is about 95 feet tall and is very impressive any time of the year.  I think it makes a wonderful post for Watery Wednesday.

Watery Wednesday #75: Little River Falls

February 17, 2010

Little River Falls, Fort Payne, Alabama. February 14, 2010.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

Betsy and I saw the waterfall pictured above on our Valentine Weekend trip to Fort Payne, Alabama.  Little River Falls is in the Little River Canyon Natural Preserve near Fort Payne.

We enjoyed our visit to Little River Falls for a couple of reasons.  One was that although we’ve visited this waterfall a couple of other times, but there was more water going over the falls this time than in the other times we visited.  The other reason we enjoyed our visit so much was that this was our first waterfall after we each got our new cameras.

Betsy has had her camera for a couple of weeks.  I got my camera last week.  It’s a Canon EOS Rebel T1i with an EF-S 18-55mm lens and a EF-S 55-250mm lens.  As you can imagine, I took quite a few pictures during the weekend.

I also experimented with RAW format.  This is the first camera I’ve had that supported RAW and I’ve enjoyed seeing what kind of images I could capture.  I took the picture above in RAW and then converted it to JPEG for posting.

I’m sure I’ll be sharing more of my experiments with you in the days ahead.

Watery Wednesday #74: Waterfall on Log Hollow Branch

February 10, 2010

Waterfall on Log Hollow Branch, Brevard, North Carolina. December 12, 2009.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

In December, 2009, Betsy and I spent a couple of days in Brevard, North Carolina, visiting waterfalls.  Since it was cold while we were there, we didn’t  have to worry about crowds on the trails, although we did meet a few other hardy souls.

Our longest hike was along Log Hollow Branch north of Brevard near Looking Glass Rock.  On our two-mile hike we saw three waterfalls, including the one above.  There was a good flow of water over the falls, and if you look closely (the picture can be enlarged by clicking on it), you’ll even see a few icicles.

I’m very grateful for all the wonderful people I’ve met in Blogland.
