The weather was not good the day Betsy and I arrived at Ocean Isle Beach last month, but the weatherman promised that the next day would be better.  And the weatherman was right.  When I went out on the balcony of our room the next morning, I could see gray, threatening clouds to the left and bright blue sky to the right.  Fortunately the front was moving from right to left, and we had a beautiful day at the beach.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful in any season and in any weather.  Cloudy weather may mean you can’t see as far into the distance as on a sunny day, but on a cloudy day it sometimes seems you can reach up and touch the clouds.

On going through my archives recently, I found some pictures taken in June, 2011, as Betsy and I drove from Kanab, Utah, to Bryce Canyon.  The morning was very overcast, so we weren’t sure of what the weather would be like at Bryce, but we headed out anyway.

As we drove along we were impressed with both the Utah landscape and the vastness of the sky.  We stopped several times along the way to get pictures.

At times the clouds were so low that they they touched the tops of the mountains in the distance.

At other times the clouds would part enough for us to see blue skies and the beautiful red cliffs of Utah.

On a more personal note, I had my first date with my Beautiful Bride on March 29, 2001.  She was a minister at Hendersonville (Tennessee) First United Methodist Church, and we made a dinner date to discuss some Bible Study lessons I had missed because my work took me out of town.

The Bible Study never came up the entire evening.

Not every sunset on Mount Nebo is perfect, in spite of some of the pictures we’ve posted from there.  Fog came rolling in late one afternoon a couple of years ago, and we were afraid  we wouldn’t see anything at all of the setting sun.  The fog was fairly thick, but I got this photo of the setting sun before it completely disappeared.  I like the reflected light on the wet rock near the bottom of the photo.

There are many things that Betsy and I like about Mount Nebo in Arkansas.  We always stay at ‘our’ cabin on the rim of the mountain.  The main reason we go in late February is that we can enjoy sunsets from the patio of the cabin.

This picture, taken last year, shows the sun sinking behind the mountains to the west of Mount Nebo.  ‘Our’ cabin is in silhouette on the left of the picture.

Betsy and I were at Mount Nebo in Arkansas last week.  We stay at the same cabin each year, since we have beautiful views at sunset from the porch at the back of the cabin.  We can sit there and look down into the valley below us and see the mountains stretching off in the distance.  When the setting sun colors the sky and sends our sun rays, we feel that we’re capturing a glimpse of heaven.

In mid-January we had a very interesting week.  It started out with above average temperatures, followed by rain, followed by sleet and some freezing rain.  We were supposed to have snow, but we didn’t get any (much to Betsy’s disappointment).

The weather started to clear late on Thursday afternoon, and as the sun was setting we noticed an unusual color in the sky.  Both of us went outside, cameras in hand.

The sky to the west contained clouds with both purple and orange-pink hues, as can be seen from the picture above.

But looking to the south, we saw a beautiful rose glow to the sky.  Once again God’s artistry was on vivid display.

All of the images are from my archives, scanned from slides.  Back in 1987 I was able to spend several days on Bali.  Bali was just about everything you could imagine  for a south sea island paradise.  The skies, and the sunsets especially, were spectacular.  These photos were taken at Kuta Beach Resort.

The weather wasn’t the all that great when we were at the beach last month, but we were treated to a gorgeous sunrise on our last morning at Ocean Isle Beach.

There were low clouds on the horizon out to sea, but the sky above was clear and beautiful.  We were able to watch as the sky brightened and the sun made its appearance.

As the sun moved above the horizon, it sent a path of light straight toward us.  While that made it hard to leave, it certainly gave us something to look forward to when we go back.

Moon in a blue sky over the Cherohala Skyway. October 25, 2009.

I went to my archives for these pictures of a beautiful Tennessee sky.  We were on the Cherohala Skyway on a gorgeous October day.  The autumn colors and the sky were both brilliant.  The moon in that blue sky was an added bonus.
