Watery Wednesday #128: Rockhouse Falls

February 23, 2011

Rockhouse Falls, Fall Creek Falls State Park, Tennessee. April 21, 2002.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

Fall Creek Falls State Park has five major waterfalls.  Rockhouse Falls is one of the smaller falls as far as water volume is concerned, although it has a drop of 125 feet.  This picture was taken from an overlook across Cane Creek Canyon from Rockhouse Falls.  I took this picture on the anniversary of our very first kiss, which took place at Fall Creek Falls State Park.

My World: Our Family of Peace Roses

February 22, 2011

Chicago Peace rose, Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. September 10, 2010.

This is my post for the My World meme.  It is hosted by Klaus, Ivar, Sandy, Wren, and Fishing Guy.  To learn more about our world or to join and share your part of the world, click HERE.

Last week I posted a picture of the rose above, Chicago Peace, on my photo blog.  In that post I mentioned that we also had Peace, which is probably the most popular rose of all time.  I also briefly described the differences between the two roses.

One of my faithful readers, Ginny, asked me to post a picture of Peace, so she could see the differences for herself.

But Chicago Peace isn’t the only descendant of Peace that we have in our yard.  We also have Glowing Peace, which shows the family resemblance.

Love and Peace is another descendant of the original Peace rose in our yard.  It, too, is a yellow-pink bicolor.

Finally we have Pink Peace.  This is the rose that looks least like its ancestors, but is probably the most fragrant of the family.

I hope you enjoyed meeting our Peace family.

Betsy and I went to Tullahoma yesterday to see how my parents are getting along at my sister’s house.  My sister has fixed up a semi-private living area for them and they seem to be adjusting well.  Both Mom and Dad were in good spirits yesterday.

February Blue Skies

February 18, 2011

Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. February 11, 2011.

This is my post for Skywatch Friday, a meme for sharing views of the sky from all over the world.  To see more, or to join and share your own photos of the sky, click HERE.

There is nothing quite as beautiful as blue skies in February.  We haven’t had many beautiful blue sky days this winter, but last weekend was an exception.  I went out in the morning and couldn’t believe how blue the sky was behind our house.  Of course I had to rush back in and grab my camera.

The trees are still bare, and they haven’t shown any signs of buds yet, but these blue skies give me hope.

Down Memory Lane: Fairfield Glade (2008)

February 10, 2011

Betsy and I think Fairfield Glade is a pretty special place.  We enjoy the beauty of the community as well as that of our own house and yard.  This collage is made up of pictures taken around Fairfield Glade during the latter part of 2008.

Scenic Sunday #133: Brush Mountain

February 6, 2011

Brush Mountain, Cumberland Gap, Tennessee. September 23, 2010.

This is my post for the Scenic Sunday meme, which shares beautiful scenes from around the world.  To see more Scenic Sunday posts, or to join and show your own pictures, click HERE.

In September, while visiting Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, Betsy and I toured the Hensley Settlement.  The Hensley Settlement was established in 1904 by Sherman Hensley and was occupied until the establishment of the park in 1951.  I took this photo while walking along a fence-lined lane on top of Brush Mountain.

Skywatch Friday: Snow and Blue Skies

February 4, 2011

This is my post for Skywatch Friday, a meme for sharing views of the sky from all over the world.  To see more, or to join and share your own photos of the sky, click HERE.

Although we’ve had a fair amount of snow this year (but not enough for Betsy), the skies have been dreary and gray.  So I went to my archives to get this picture taken from our deck of a new snow under a blue Tennessee sky.

Scenic Sunday #132: Looking Toward The Smokies

January 30, 2011

The view of the Smoky Mountains from the Foothills Parkway, Townsend, Tennessee. October 14, 2010.

This is my post for the Scenic Sunday meme, which shares beautiful scenes from around the world.  To see more Scenic Sunday posts, or to join and show your own pictures, click HERE.

In mid-October of last year Betsy and I took a ride along the Foothills Parkway.  The Parkway is west of, and parallel to, the Smoky Mountains and provides some wonderful views of the mountains.  Since the Parkway is at a fairly low altitude, there wasn’t much color, but the scenery was beautiful nonetheless.

Watery Wednesday #124: Waterloo Falls

January 26, 2011

Waterloo Falls, Hardy, Tennessee. February 23, 2008.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

Waterloo Falls is an impressive 35-foot curtain of water across a stream approximately 100 feet wide.  As you can see, there was quite a bit of water going over the falls when we visited.

This waterfall wasn’t listed in any of our waterfall books, but Betsy found out about it on-line.  It’s only about an hour from our house, so we took a drive to see if we could find it.  We obviously were successful.

A nice bonus was a second, smaller waterfall upstream from Waterloo Falls.  All-in-all we had a great day finding things to share on Watery Wednesday.

Watery Wednesday #123: Twin Falls

January 19, 2011

Twin Falls, Rock Island State Park, Tennessee.

This is my post for Watery Wednesday.  To see more of our beautiful watery world, or to join and post your own pictures to share, click HERE.

Twin Falls in Rock Island State Park here in Tennessee is a relatively new waterfall.  It didn’t appear until a dam was built on the river on the other side of the hill containing the falls.  As the reservoir filled, water filled caverns in the hill and ‘leaked’ out the other side.  After unsuccessfully trying to stop the leaks, hydrologists decided that the hill was not in danger of collapsing, and Tennessee state parks had a new attraction.

Skywatch Friday: Plateau Skies

January 14, 2011

This is my post for Skywatch Friday, a meme for sharing views of the sky from all over the world.  To see more, or to join and share your own photos of the sky, click HERE.

One advantage to posting on Skywatch Friday, is that we become more aware of the sky and the beauty that is in it on just about every day.  I recently came across an archived file of sky photos from 2009.  I used that file to create the collage above.
