Skywatch Friday: Gran Piton

June 11, 2010

Gran Piton, St. Lucia. September 13, 2001.

We’ve had rain off and on during this week, and I didn’t get out to take pictures of the sky.  So I went to my archives and pulled out this photo.

Gran Piton is one of the iconic scenes on the island of St. Lucia.  This picture of the mountain against the cloudy Caribbean sky was taken from a catamaran off the coast.  We visited St. Lucia on our honeymoon cruise in 2001.

Skywatch Friday: A New Beginning

Sunrise on the Plateau. June 6, 2006.

This week has been rather hectic, so I had to go to the archives to find a picture to post.  I chose this picture of a sunrise here in the Glade taken from one of our golf courses.

I felt a sunrise is appropriate to post today because Betsy’s surgery went well yesterday afternoon.  The surgeon was pleased with the procedure and felt that it would give Betsy relief from her pain.  Betsy was able to move around last night without pain, so we hope that is a good sign.  She has a pain prescription to help her over the next couple of days.  Although Betsy should move around, she’s under doctor’s orders to take it easy, so I guess I’ll have to mow the lawn this weekend!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Skywatch Friday: A Golden Sunset

Sunset on the Plateau, Crossville, Tennessee.

One of the advantages of living where we do on the Plateau is that we are often treated to beautiful sunsets.  This view greeted Betsy and me as we walked to the car after our ‘monthaversary’ celebration.  The sky was as glorious as the occasion was.

Betsy was able to get her MRI earlier in the day than we expected, so hopefully the doctor will get the results earlier as well.

I know I’m behind on visiting many of you.  I haven’t forgotten about you and will get to you, but today I have to go to Hendersonville to help my parents run some errands.  In the meantime I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and, if this a holiday weekend for you, I hope you get summer off to a very happy start.

Skywatch Friday: Sky Over the Beach

May 21, 2010

The sky over Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. May 5, 2010.

We enjoyed beautiful weather while we were at the beach earlier this month.  It did rain one day, but we had  beautiful blue skies most of the other days.  We were enjoying the beach one sunny day when I looked inland and saw all these clouds from an approaching front.  The contrast with the blue sky and sand of the beach was striking and attractive.

Skywatch Friday: Rainbow Over the Ocean

We had beautiful weather while we were at the beach, although it did rain one day.  Even that was a good day since we could catch up on reading and even slip in a nap.  The sun came out late in the afternoon and we were treated to a rainbow reaching out over the ocean.

If you enlarge the picture and look closely to the right of the rainbow you will see a faint second rainbow.  We don’t often see double rainbows, and this is the first time I’ve gotten a picture of one.  I guess that made a few raindrops very worthwhile.

Betsy and I are going to Hendersonville this morning to see my parents.  Dad got something in the mail which has him concerned, so he wants me to see it.  I’ll try to catch up with each of you as quickly as I can.

The picture above was taken at Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, last year.  We’ve been  treated to a moonrise at the beach for the past two years.  We’re heading down there early tomorrow (Saturday) morning and hope we get to see such a scene again.

This will be my last  post until we get back.  I’ll have my iPod Touch with me and will try to visit as many of you as possible.  Until we get back I hope you all enjoy beautiful sunny days and peaceful star-filled nights.

Last Sunday (April 18) evening I was outside putting things away as it was getting dark and I noticed this crescent moon up in the sky.  Naturally I had to grab my camera and get a picture to share with you.

We’ve had summer-ike weather for several days now.  Looking up showed a blue sky with some small white clouds.  It also showed that the trees are leafing out very nicely.

Later in the afternoon the clouds got a little bigger and some even got a little darker.  We didn’t get any rain, but I did get some good sky pictures.

Skywatch Friday: Smokies Sky

I’ve been working in the yard this week and neglected to get any pictures of our beautiful skies.  But I found this picture in my archives that shows the sky and clouds very similar to what we’ve been enjoying.  This picture was taken this past October at an overlook above Cheoah Lake in the Smokies.

Skywatch Friday: Approaching Storm

Storm Clouds Approaching Bali. June, 1987

I went to my archives to get this picture for my Skywatch post.  In 1987, on my way to China for the first time, I was able to spend a few days in Bali.  Our group stayed at a place on the beach and we were able to enjoy the sky, sand and sea.  Late one afternoon I was on the beach just before a storm came in.  I like the light breaking through the clouds and the ridges in the sand.
